The potting shed is where we carry out some of our most creative and intuitive gardening work. It is here that we select seeds and composts, and it is where we sow, nurture and pot on the young plants with which we are going to shape our gardens in the coming season. It is also where we store precious plants and bulbs during the harsh winter months. It is a space for experimenting, taking chances, thinking things over, learning, and planning ahead.
Welcome to The Potting Shed, a group for creative and experimental garden photography.
We welcome contributions in the form of genuine and authentic images with a garden theme, in particular texturised or otherwise manipulated images, images taken with toy or vintage cameras, ttv images (real or fake), and any form of curious or exciting images that portray gardens in new, unusual and interesting ways.
Please note, this is not the place for straightforward, brightly-coloured flower photographs. While such images are often attractive and beautiful, hundreds of Flickr groups dedicated to flowers already exist. Let’s not compete with them. Instead, let us make this a space for more experimental garden photography. So, think creatively about what a garden is. Garden photography includes images of plants (and yes, flowers) but also of garden paths, forgotten corners, benches, tools, sheds, hedges, trees... and much more.
Humans and other animals in gardens are fine, but the garden must be the main focus.
I hope that this group will become a forum where we can learn from each other and receive genuine feedback on our experiments. Looking forward to seeing your photographs.
