About St Mary's Orchard South Brisbane
A diverse orchard is to be planted at the rear of St Mary's Parish House in Merivale St South Brisbane on 400sq m (approx) of unused land. The orchard will contain rare and common fruits from all over the world to reflect the diverse community it will serve. All fruit will go to financially challenged people in the area with surplus sold to pay for the upkeep of the facility. Planning is well advanced and is being conducted by a consortium of local business (unpaid) and community spirited local gardeners and headed by a local retired nurseryman. All trees have been gifted ( over $1500 worth ) by a local pensioner and it is hoped that we can inspire local business to sponsor individual trees either in cash or in kind. This will pay for the tree or trees and we will provide a plaque identifying the tree and the donor. We are also looking for more volunteers especially migrants, indigenous people, locals and disabled people are encouraged to join in. Our motto is do as little or as much as you are able and willing to do.
Phone Dr Fruit on 0428730233 if interested.
