UNHCR (a group admin) says:
02 Jun 09 - As the UNHCR is concerned with the plight of refugees, our pictures represent the people, lives and culture of men, women and children living on IDP sites or refugee camps. Nevertheless, please also post other pictures of the country, people, culture, etc.... it is important to show all different aspects of this country in the heart of Africa....If you don't have any images of the DRC, join this group to show support for the plight of the Congolese population! Thanks!

About Democratic Republic of Congo

Fighting in North Kivu intensified at the end of 2006. By January 2008, at the time of the Goma ceasefire signing, the conflict had brought the total number of IDPs in the region to more than 800,000. Since the fighting resumed in August, some 250,000 civilians have fled, many of them already displaced. Estimates are that there are now more than 1.3 million displaced people in this province alone.
