haha, sukita - that's great!
Here's the to-do list of Week 6 stuff from the SW Cure post (their posts always pop up so quickly!)
Deep Treatment:
Clean bathrooms and related closets
Declutter cabinets and closets.
Arrange your bathroom efficiently.
Upgrade your razor and shaving supplies
Purchase bath salts and a nice soap
Place a candle in your bathroom
Consider scents for your home
Plan for the week ahead on Sunday
Wake early and take a bath before work
Optional: consider a media fast for the next week
Optional: straighten your desk at work.
One Room Remedy:
Finalize your lighting arrangement
Get painting
I think this week's task provide kind of a breather and give us a chance to catch up on other areas where we may have gotten behind.
My entryway/office is where I need to catch up. In addition to trying to find the right shade of yellow for my tv stand.
My bathroom is pretty easy, just have to declutter my medicine bag, (I didn't have a cabinet until recently) and get another candle. I don't have a tub, so a bath won't happen. And I'm not sure a media fast is possible, maybe I'll try to do a traditional Friday night shabbos with no tv.

we finally got brave enough and bought all the supplies for wallpapering. The first 2 strips are on the wall! Looks so much better. And it was easy!
Also, we painted the baseboard heater covers (in the bathrooms) because they started to rust.
Still need to figure out new hooks for the towels. And a couple of new hand towels :-)

i'm kinda glad its bathroom week- i did almost all of it already a while back before the cure. i leave for boston for a conference early tomorrow morning, so now i have an excuse to buy luxurious toiletries while in the big city! while i cant full-on media fast, i wont be in front of a tv all day (but probably powerpoint, yikes) and way too busy to watch tv. its the greenbuild conference, so maybe some of the vendors will have some sustainable cleaning product swag!
i've been a bit of a slacker. all i did this weekend was touchup paint in the den and clean the kitchen. scott has orders to clean the bathroom while i'm gone. not holding breath on that one.... maybe i'll paint the mailbox pink as punishment!

Bathroom Week motivated me to tackle the water stains in my bathtub. Sounds gross, I know. I guess the pipes in our building (or is it all of NYC?) have a lot of iron, so there were little pink water spots in the tub. I asked my husband to grab some Comet/Bon-Ami at the store, and he came home with Comet With Bleach. I would not have bought it with bleach, but, man, did it work! The cleanliness made my subsequent shower so much more pleasant!
While my bathroom is generally in good shape, I'll keep thinking about ways to improve it this week.

Ahh, bathroom week.. should be fairly straight forward. I've already purged the unused products so it'll just be some cleaning and some drawer organizing... I need a new curtain but I splurged on a feather bed topper that was on sale, so it may have to wait!
Last week I conquered the little drawers that were taunting me and now have some extra space, which is always nice!
I have a toilet issue... when I moved in last year the bowl was full of mold. I've tried comet, bleach, a variety of toilet bowl cleaners, 2000 flushes and vinegar/baking soda, but the mold keeps coming back - it only takes about 3 days before I have to clean it again.
Anyone know what's going on?

So I am thinking about skipping the kitchen.
There is no way I am going to get that kitchen even started properly during the Fall Cure dates, and I think I might focus on the rest of the house as best I can before the end. Having said that, I know that many of us have bitten off more than we can chew and we're thinking of continuing on with the...um... "Early Winter Cure 2008/2009". And although "Mid-Winter Cure 2009" sounds so much nicer, I don't think I want to wait, I want to keep going. Wonder if we can get this sanctioned by AT?
*Lizzy, I applaud the bathroom scouring. I wish I could wash our main bathroom's floor with something stronger than spit (kidding). Whatever the previous owner used to ahem, 'seal the floor tiles' didn't work, and if you step on the tile with wet feet and don't move swiftly the 'sealant' sticks to you, peeling off the ceramic like human skin. Ewwwwww. I try to keep on the bath mat and not look down too much.
*kmg is painting, *Nudik is papering (!), *ephcee is going to be an electrician or plumber and *EVAmy, I love that you are painting the tv stand yellow. That is not done often enough. And Amy, thank you again for being our Caretaker of the Main Thread.
*Salazar, we are all pulling for the pink mailbox. And I am now going to dare you -- officially! because I am working on painting something hot pink that will actually be in my house.

jendavid.....i agree and want to keep going also.....Hot Pink in the House you go............so salazar the official dare by jendavid and now i double dare you!!! lol...
i have no idea how to get mold out of a toilet ephcee...maybe go on line and see what google says....but i am SURE someone has the answer here......together we will destroy the mold...
jendavid the tile situation in the bathroom sounds interesting.....it's always a challenge to "fix" the previous owners decorating repairing ideas!
thanks EVAmy.

Nudik - wallpapering is awesome! I'd be too afraid, I have uneven-ish walls and difficulty with contact paper.
Salazar - October's domino issue had a great Boston city guide in it,
www.dominomag.com/resources/guide/boston/shop_boston
Hope you find some good stuff! And yes go pink with the mailbox.
Lizzy - isn't it great how much of a difference little things make?
Ephcee - is your bathroom really humid? I know that's kind of a ridiculous question because bathrooms get humid when showering, but maybe try a dehumidifier in there?? Good luck with that!
Jen - I think we could cure infinitely! Maybe try sanding down your tiles and then resealing? But that might be something to tackle in the mid-winter cure. :)
kmg - I had a semi slacker week last week, I think that's why Maxwell timed bathroom week now because he knew we'd start fading a bit.

Infinite curing... I like that!
Especially since I haven't done anything in a week and a half.. :P
I'm getting a little frustruated with myself.
Tonight I am going to try to begin catching up. I kind of can't wait for Thanksgiving weekend because I'm going to use that time to finish up ALOT of loose ends around the house.
Sometimes I think upkeep is 90% of the battle! I also tend to go fast and furious and then burn out. Anyone else?

upkeep is 90% of the battle and I am happy to say no actually proud to say everything that has been cured so far is still looking good! And that is HUGE! Usually it's good for a week and then back to being trashed but not this time...i think it's because of the OUTBOX and just being mindful to love my house!

@EastVillageAmy, we use textured wallpaper, because it's a tiny room, texture makes it feel bigger, and if you paint over the wallpaper, the paint does not feel overwhelming. I've posted a picture.
Cat is trying Feline Pine litter this week. Poor thing was starring at his potty the whole evening trying to figure out what's wrong with it. I had to mix in some clay litter...
And I also need to find a better toilet cleaner - we have water problems sometimes, when it runs all yellow, and stains everything badly. Any tips?

In the past 2 weeks, all I've managed to do is clean the linen closet and sell the bedroom furniture. I'm sick again, Adam has a convention this week (read: busy as hell), and my mom stayed with us last weekend... all of this ate up our Cure time.
This week we're rewiring the craftroom and bedroom, so I have some cleaning/prep to do in those areas. And since this is bathroom week, I'll clean the bathroom window and put the shower curtains in the wash. I'd bleach the whole bathroom clean again, but I don't think my lungs could handle it right now.

kmg7487, I couldn't rewire anything to save my life, so don't feel bad. :)
I still have some stuff to do from every week, including installing the stuff for my landing strip. Hey, at least I made some decisions and bought the stuff. That still counts as progress.
Has anyone seen the post? Kinda late this week... and how come SW always gets theirs up first? I thought AT was in New York, wouldn't it make more sense to do it from the East coast to the West coast and take advantage of the time change? Maxwell, if you are reading this, please consider my suggestion. :)

Thanks kmg! You know, I think my mom brought this cold? Because I was fine for 2 days and then she came and I got sick again! It's mostly just a hacking cough, I'll live. (Even if I don't sound like it!)
Still haven't had the courage to go through Adam's files. I'm really starting to think I should just do my small, pretty tidy batch and leave him to tackle his own mess! I already handle sorting the mail, jeez.
mouchoux: You don't have a lot of space to make mistakes in the first place, so being careful makes sense. On top of that, you've been doing a lot of renovations rather than decorating, which takes longer. Seems like you're prepping for a lot of changes and that will make the whole process go much smoother when you find a chunk of time to get it done.
Does it seem like we lost some people, or is it just me?

No ephcee, it's not up yet. But I hope they show the world your new lamp! And who else had new lamps, she rehab'd two of them, they were great...please pipe up if you madeover those lamps, I'm sorry I forgot who that was...
I think with all the great lighting going on around here (hello ZuzuPetals) we should have a lighting thread. Seriously, I love lighting and I think it would be great to see what everybody's got in their homes.

Yeah, I don't know why NY is always the last to get a post. I've been checking in sporadically throughout the day. Maybe because it's run out of NY they are super busier than the other sites, or maybe Maxwell thinks that since alot of us are behind we could use the extra day in Week 5 or maybe he just finds us very self-sufficient ;-)
I love the idea of a lighting thread. I have no natural light really and lighting is an area I definitely need to work on.
Chottomotto - I hope you feel better, try ginger root in some tea or blended in juice, it will make you feel better. But keep in mind a little goes a LONG way.
Oh and Jen- don't be daunted by the kitchen, I think that was one of the easiest weeks so far.

Kmg, I see what you mean about your landing strip. It's pretty tiny. You are right - definitely paint first. You could definitely do some narrow shelves to take advantage of the vertical space and yes, a little table would look great in the spot you are thinking about.
Chotto, you are totally right. I do need to be careful, despite the fact that I am impatient.
It does seem like we lost some people. I remember Michelle and MommaPudding were pretty active and haven't seen any posts from them in awhile. I wonder if they are just busy working on their projects or if they got sidetracked by personal stuff. This process has been very helpful, but a bit overwhelming at times.
Can you just chuck Adam's files in a box for him to deal with on his own timetable and just rest up a bit?
EVA, I would like to credit your expert leadership as leading Maxwell to think he doesn't have to worry about us too much. :)
All, I'm taking another 4 bags of stuff to Goodwill. That's probably about 8 bags in the past couple of months alone. I still have about 4 more to eBay/Craig's List.
Good work, everyone.

EVA, great minds think alike! i had a few hours today before the conference started so i checked out a few of domino's recommendations. all in all they were great, but a tad pricey. so i did some really good browsing :)
thank you friends for the double dog dare. i'm still trying to figure out this whole "sharing" thing- i'm scared scott is going to say no to the pink. anybody have some cohabitation advice? i've also skipped the office week because its all scott's crap, and its hard to make people clean up sometimes. i think he kind of feels like i'm invading his house. this would have all been easier had we moved together into a space that was new to both of us, but that doesnt work when you own a house. le sigh. at least the house has potential!
but! i'm going to at least broach the subject of pink paint- maybe almost reddish pink to help soften the blow. every damn day that mailbox begs me to paint it and i can no longer ignore its cries!

@NUDIK:
two words: Pumice stone. It's the only thing that cleans our toilet stains from the water (rust? minerals? one can only hope!) I put on gloves, close the toilet valve thingy and flush.
Rub the wet stone on stains.. it sounds bad, but it really truly works.
@Tiboutoo: I am so envious. I want to do the media fast so bad, but I can't. I have to use computer, etc. for work. Not to mention, I'd go through withdrawal without Heroes, Clean House and No Reservations (LOVE Anthony Bourdain :))

@ ephcee concerning the mould in the toilet
First you'd have to find out if it's really mould or rather mildew. Mould is very hafd to kill, but since it's on a closed surface (ceramic), it should be easier than say on wood or cloth. The only thing that really kills mould is alcohol with 70% (ethanol from the drugstore/pharmacy). It should be applied liberally on cloth or cotton wool, put on the mould and covered with aluminium foil. Let it sit for some time and then scrape everything away vigourously. If the mould comes back, there has to be a source somewhere and the humidity of the room might be too high, so you might go looking for the source or think about better ventilation.
But the only thing really killing mould is gamma rays... ;-)
@ Salazaar: We have a dark pink wall/ purple wall in our black and white kitchen and I made a colour mock-up for the boyfriend beforehand and this is what convinced him (he is more the "all black" kind of guy)! Good luck with the mailbox, hot pink rules!!!

Guys (Gals?):
I think I'm going to have to drop out. It makes me sad but that last thing I can think about right now are my curtains when I can hardly sweep the floor. I was hoping to slog through and I'm still working on my outbox, but I'm dealing with more health issues at once than I really thought possible. When it rains it pours. I'm enjoying all your work and you all really do inspire me. I'll be watching the progress. =)

Not about bathrooms, but just thought I'd share:
This morning while getting dressed, I put on a jacket that I got in Mongolia. It is really the last piece of "sentimental" clothing - something I was saving because it was unique and because I thought my unborn children would want to use it to play dress-up. Well, when I put it on this morning, I realized why I never wear it - I dislike it! So I put it in my Outbox for Goodwill. Now my closet truly only has clothes I wear and like. It's awesome.
I have a Closet Karma theory: Each piece sends out a positive or negative karma point. Let's say you have ten items in your closet, and you like seven of them, and dislike three of them. This means you have seven positive points and three negative points, so your total Closet Karma is only four, despite the fact that you own ten items. However, if you get rid of those three depressing items (your grandma gave it to you, you paid a lot of money for it, it used to fit...), then you have seven items and seven karma points. It feels great to open the closet then!
I use this idea to motivate me to get rid of old baggage.

I'm excited it's bathroom week though because doing smaller rooms you can accomplish in a week really helps me feel like I'm moving forward. I have taken down the huge wall sized mirror in my guest bathroom and put up two smaller ones and hung a hand towel rack. Now I have to tackle the linen closet...closets are my nemesis!! LizzyNYC your post has totally inspired me to tackle those areas this week and get back my good Karma!

Aww Zuzu, I hope you do get to feeling better soon. I can only imagine all the awesomeness that would have happened if you were in full health. Please do pop in and say hi when you can, I love your input!
Oh and ephcee - I just thought of it, maybe try to give your toilet a spritz once or twice a day with a shower spray that's made for preventing mold/mildew on shower curtains & tile. You don't have to scrub with those and maybe it will keep your mildew at bay for a few days longer. Method has fantastic smelling ones.
Lizzy - I totally know what you mean. I just did this with my great closet purge of 2008. I used these questions to determine what stayed and what went:
"Do I love it?"
"Is it flattering?"
"If Tim Gunn went thru my clothes would I be embarrassed if he found this?"
"If Tom Welling magically showed up randomly at my door would I be presentable?"
I got rid of alot of workout and "around the house" clothes that were comfy but past their prime or somewhat schlubby and I don't miss any of it.
Other Tiffany - wow with your amazing tables and lamp do overs it's hard to think that you would feel off track! I find all of your hardwork totally inspiring.
And still no Week 6 post on AT...so weird.

I spent a little bit of time trying to find everything I could in the house that was pink, purple, jewel tones, metallic, etc - and moved them into the bathroom. I also dug up this silly yet endearingly winsome concert poster and nailed it to the wall by the medicine cabinet. I think my bathroom at least looks more lived-in and colorful!
The storage cabinet under the sink is so tiny. The way I deal with my stuff now is to have a bunch of big ziplock bags into which I sorted all the different things by category (first aid, nail/hand/foot, cold remedies, hair stuff, etc). So at least I can find things even if they're all just thrown in there. What I need to do is purge a bunch of the things I really don't use, and then install some pink shelves and display the stuff I do use. I really just want to make my bathroom look more lived-in and used. It's so sterile and boring. And if I get nice containers for my toiletries, I don't think it will look too much like a drugstore.

Who ordered this snow storm?? Sheesh... it's going to be a looong winter around here if it's starting already... Did you guys get any snow today??
As for the toilet situation: the mold (or mildew, or micro-civilization, whatever it is) all grows below the water line in the bowl, so I don't think it's a moisture issue and it's not really something I could spray, unfortunately. That bathroom has a pretty powerful fan (at least noisy) and there are no nasty growth issues anywhere else. I could take a picture of it, but it's pretty gross...
Zuzu - I'm sorry to hear you have to drop off! But keep visiting us, we'll be around :)
My goal for tonight (since the satellite isn't working due to the weather) is to get everything all cleaned up shiny and new. I'll be away tomorrow through Sunday for a wedding in another city and it'll be nice to come home to a clean bathroom!

CLEAN BATHROOMS!!!! Love them!!!That's the one room when you clean it, you can just tell............you can bust your a__ on something else and it's not the same as cleaning a bathroom!

lol, yeah... that would be gross :)
It's definitely some kind of mold though. It cleans up easily enough, and there's no residual staining or anything... the tank itself is mold free. I'm at a loss...
Would it be safe to put vinegar and baking soda in the tank and flush it through? That wouldn't damage anything... as far as I know...

Zuzu too bad you are leaving, there is always a next time right? hope you feel better.
kmg: yes, gross lol!
ephcee: how about a few drops of chlorine everyday...or...isn´t it possible that the water tank is the one with the mold and it then passes to the bowl? maby if you clean it...just a thought...
LizzyNYC:I think I have like 0 closetkarma points, need to work on that...good theory
EVamy: LOL good questions to declutter your closet!
Hillariet: I painted my landing strip wall in hot really hot pink...fussia (is that spelled correctly?) my husband freaked out when he saw it with the first coat but there was nothing he could do then next day when it was finished he came home that noght and loved it...take the chance who knows...maybe he will like it, if not repaint...(Dooo-it! how quick does the mold (ALGAE?) grow in the bowl- is it flushed often?

Yay we got a post, and my tulips made the post!
I'm loving all the hot pink/fuchia entering our lives! Jen - I am soo curious to see what is going to turn up shocking pink, I can't wait.
kmg - I totally agree, I clean bathroom is instant impact.
ephcee - I think flushing vinegar & baking soda thru the tank would be fine, maybe throw in some tilex on another occasion. But cleaning the inside tank wouldn't hurt and I also agree to do the water sample thing. Or maybe see what they use in fishtanks to keep them from getting microcivilizations? Is that chlorine? You should take a photo and send it in to Good Questions on AT. We are so going to get this solved.
And Sukita, I'm pretty sure we'll still be around. Have a great time! Congrats on getting your man to pitch in!

Okay, can't remember who (I'm very sorry, all of your photos are so wonderful I get confused) but somebody here has the most awesome botany poster with a black background, and I've commented on it twice probably... I wanted to say here that I found one that I really really like! And I think I'm going to get it! And maybe we don't have to mention to my husband how much it costs right off the bat, okay? But I'm really happy about it and grinning my whatsits off.

Well I have a botany poster - maybe you're thinking of me? I know you've commented on it! Mine has a dark green background though.
Mine was so expensive. Especially given the state of things. But it makes me so happy and makes my living room so much more beautiful that I just had to have it.
I also have some mycological prints (is that what you call mushroom pictures?) which are very old and were given to me by my parents, that I just need to get mats and frames for - I'm very excited about that!
ETA: I forgot to say that I also have a problem with my toilet bowl - I just think that the old pipes in this building deposit so much rust and so on that the bowl gets dirty again pretty much the day after I clean it. I am used to cleaning it once a week, so it's frustrating. I am NOT about to scrub my toilet every frickin' day. But what to do about it? I use Ecover toilet bowl cleaner - maybe the lack of harsh chemicals is to blame.

hilarriet, it *is* you! Thank you so much... I had wanted one of these posters when I saw them in Anthropologie but I would start hiccupping when I saw how much they were there. But the ones I found today are about half the cost so I want to get one.

I am presently away for the weekend... and it's lovely. I managed to get my bathroom all cleaned up last night at 3am, because that's what happens when I'm switching for night shifts back to real life!
I scrubbed the toilet with some bleach, left some in to sit for awhile (some in the tank too), then did the same thing with vinegar just for kicks. I won't be seeing it again until Sunday so we'll see if it's growing again or what...
Hope everyone has a productive weekend!

the bathroom week pushed us to try Feline Pine, and we are SO glad we did. We still need to find an effective way to clean the litter box (aka "kitty potty"), may be buy a scoop from them. But:
- there's significantly less mess (we're in the switching state, so there is some clay mixed in with Pine pellets), and before we used to find clay litter UPSTAIRS! I used to sweep the floors twice daily, and now I can do it every other day.
- it actually smells nice: in addition to neutralizing odors, it brings in a fresh pine smell.
- we did not figure out yet if it's more or less expensive, because you only use a little of it at the time, so we don't know how to compare it to clay. I guess, we should compare how much money we spend per month. So far, it looks like it might even be cheaper.
- no more super heavy stinky garbage bags.
So, to all of you, feline lovers, your kitty deserves a treat for a bathroom week. (PS: depending on how stubborn your cats are, it might not be very easy to switch them from clay litter. Our cat was starring at the pine pellets for several hours. He agreed to use it only after we mixed in some clay litter. Week later, he seems to be OK with pellets. Next week - no clay)

I use World's Best cat litter - you know, the kind made of corn. It's pretty good too, but my cat does track a lot around and it doesn't have a fresh pine scent. It clumps really nicely though, and it absorbs odors really well.

If anyone gets a second, will you take a look at some of the lamps I am considering and see if you know of something similar? I like them all; but they are either too big, too angular or not enough color. I am very much feeling like Goldilocks right about now. Where oh where is my "just right" lamp?

jendavid - agreed! I realized the other day that I had gone through the bins in my closet before thinking like a "Curee", So I pulled everything out again and completed emptied two bins. It's great!
I am, however, in denial about the bins currently living in my grandmother's attic. That's all pre-university stuff and I don't know if I have the intestinal fortitude to go through it yet... Out of sight, out of mind - right?? It also helps that she lives 2 hours away...

I envy everyone who has art in the bathroom. It makes it look like a room, not just a bathroom. We have floor to ceiling tiles all other the main room. Any ideas for decorating? It feels illogical to hang pictures on the tiles!? I've posted pictures of our "cold" empty sterile bathroom. Go ahead, suggest, comment. Need more life and warmth in it. Have no idea how to bring it in. Thanks :-)

Yay, Jen I'm so glad you got your momentum back. I'm channeling Throreau, he's great for this time of year anyway: "simplify, simplify, simplify!"
Ephcee, congrats on emptying the two bins and I agree with mouchox, you don't have to extend your Cure to your gram's attic, one home is more than enough! :)
Nudik, I would hang art in there. If you use lightweight frames you could use those 3m stick hook things to avoid having to drill into the tile.
I'm so happy my philosophy stuff came today! Pumpkin pie shampoo&shower gel, Amazing Grace hot salt scrub, Baby Grace hand cream (I got this to put my order over $50 for free shipping) and I got a free gingerbread man lipshine, just tried it, it's yummy! They sent me a promo code to get a free one if you buy $25 or more by 12/15, so I thought I'd pass it on, it's gbreadgift. So it looks like I'll do a bit of spa night for my attempt at a media fast tonight. I hope there's no must see basketball on tonight.

Nudik, I think there are some hangers from 3M that will stick to tile but can be removed safely... There seem to be a lot of sizes.
www.amazon.com/Command-17003-Large-Adhesive-Strips/dp/B00...
You could also hang art from the ceiling if you put scews or hooks in a stud or joist up there and use flishing line to hang a picture.
ephcee, I probably would leave the far-away stuff until last.
mouchoux, I'm having a hard time with lamps myself, as you know. I would like to find some with color that I can afford. It's tough to find a nice patterned shade or a pretty ceramic base that's in my range right now. I'm starting to think you should find one you like and then bring it home to try it out. Everything looks different when it's in your own space.

Jendavid, I agree. Everything needs to come home for a trial run before I decide it is the right solution.

Nudik - I think when the walls are bare it emphasizes, "hey this is a wall of tile" but if you hang art on it then it becomes more of a regular wall with texture or color, similar to maybe a wallpapered wall.
And jen I was eyeing those 3m things when I was scared about drywall anchors, which turn out to be no big deal.
Posted 43 months ago.

Amy, I have learned to love anchors. Toggle bolts I'm not so fond of though.
mouchoux, I say clean out the store of all the lamps you like and then go home and have a lamp-trying-out party. Oh I wish I could come!
Nudik, if you like the pictures there then that's great. I took me a while to hang stuff in my bathrooms, although nothing with "eyes" because I heard that creeps people out, some feel like they're being looked at, LOL. But yes, if you like it, that's good enough for me. If somebody comes in your house and tells you it's strange to put art on a tiled wall well... then they aren't allowed to come back.
(I'm telling you all, I'm ON FIRE today.)

Nudik, this is kind of a far-out suggestion; but any chance that could you just paint some of the tiles? You could paint individual tiles with designs or paint a group to read as one piece of artwork.

jen you are on fire.........linen closet looks great!
nudik you can so hang art on your tiles..........and with those 3M hooky things if you don't like it there aren't any holes in the tiles.......and people will say "oh my look how creative she is"
you could go to a Home Depot store or a craft store and get little containers of paint (make sure it's for tiles) and then just paint little designs on them...that would be cute but i'm thinking art and I think I am going to take the picture hanging in my living room (the to small for the wall one) and hang it in the bathroom tomorrow.
jendavid-can't wait for the pink!
mouchoux...lamps and lighting another decorating problem i have....
i should enroll in decorating 101 or have some of you come and tell me what to move where!
ephcee.....good for you clean bathroom and bins recured!and leave the stuff at your grandmothers there for another time.....
EVA...yaaayyy your tulips and a shoutout......

Ah! So no wedding for me today! We had a huuuge snowstorm that started last night and is still going strong. The highway from here to where we're going is closed and they never never ever close the highways. I don't remember it ever happening before...
I'm not pleased, but at least I'm stuck at a good friend's house!

www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/at-home-cure-ny/eastern-fall-...
I just wanted to report back on my media fast. It was nice, but the only major difference I noticed was that I went to sleep way later than normal, which is the opposite of what I expected. I guess I missed my Daily Show/Colbert Report/SportsCenter bedtime cue. I think the media fast effected the dog more than me, I usually leave espn on for him during the day, so when I left the tv off all night he seemed a little confused and out of sorts. I did enjoy my new bath stuff and puttered around in there a bit and also tackled some entry way stuff and laundry. It's freezing here today so I'm doing more laundry and watching football and sorting papers. Reading back in the AT book, I noticed I'm great with the even # weeks (kitchen, living room, bathroom) the odd #s (entry way, office) are tougher for me.
Ephcee- yay! snow day!

Fortunately the wedding went on without us and they're able to have something tomorrow for the people who couldn't make it today...
So what did we do today instead? Well I made an AT cure convert!! It was funny actually, she asked me about it and I just started talking. She got excited and we went to town on her junk room (yes, a whole room, not just a drawer). It was awesome and we got a lot accomplished (huge outbox!).
So I did get some work done afterall!!

I took some photographs but then I realized I have no way to display the dress other than laying in on my bed. Which is how I lay out my outfits day to day. I'm definitely going to have to come up with a better solution. (When I do, I'll photograph the dress. It's so pretty!!)
**edit** I found some hangers that twist so I can use them on the door until I put up some hooks. Pictures of the dress are up and I promise to post pictures of the big day. Only one month to go!
And I really liked Jen's idea of the different directions of the hangers to sort what you wear and what you don't. I have way too much clothing and it's becoming a hassle to get dressed. I think I'll work on these things next week. Today we're putting up some bathroom walls!

After basically being off the Cure for a few weeks due to traveling and other life circumstances, I am back with a vengeance. I'm going to post a list of my week's accomplishments so I can feel like I'm not nearly as far behind in my Cure goals as I really am. Here goes (photos here):
* donated two large bookcases to a friend
* donated an old folding table to a friend
* bought and installed energy-saver lightbulbs in my bathroom and hallway
* finally set my wall clocks to be correct after daylight savings time (this was aggravating my girlfriend to no end)
* scoured my kitchen and bathroom sinks back to their original shine
* emptied all my DVD cases and prepped them for donation
* arranged my videogame equipment
* cleaned out my junkmail backlog
* caught up on my weekly chores - bills, laundry, dishes, grocery shopping, and cleaning the kitchen and bathroom
And last but certainly not least...
I scoured my Filthy McNasty shower like nobody's business. I still have a bit of work to get that 100% shiny clean, but my hardcore scrubbing has already made a huge impact. I took "before" photos but I'm too embarassed to post them.
Next weekend I'll be bringing home the new cat furniture my dad and I built last month (the paint wasn't dry at the end of my last visit). Yeah!

I don't know how to paint the tiles but it seems like there has to be a way to do it. There are also quite a lot of decorative home decorating stickers that you could try. Urban Outfitters makes a lot of them and you may be able to DIY.
