About Orpheum
This group is to document and celebrate the chain of theatres across North America which were originally built in the early part of the 20th century as vaudeville houses. They drew frequent comparisons to the famous opera houses of Europe, but also encorporated many fashionable trends of the time including Egyptian and Spanish Renaissance themes. They would also typically fuse many interesting design styles from gothic, morrish and roman arches, various tapestries and ornate ceiling details.
Some of the cities that still have a fully restored and functioning Orpheum Theatres include:
Los Angeles, California
Memphis, Tennessee
Omaha, Nebraska
San Francisco, California
Sioux City, Iowa
Vancouver, British Columbia
