Drag to set position!

fyngyrz ADMIN February 12, 2010
In this group, it's all about what the camera can do - high resolution, fine detail, both ends of the ISO range, high and low speed, etc.

Make certain submitted images visible to everyone in full resolution, or our omniscient ThumbKiller bot will delete them.

If you've got a clip (like, an astro shot with a small subject) then embed it in a larger (> 1024, either axis) blank background. Don't do this for reductions.

Thank you. Come look at the pool and see what the 50D can do!

Group Description

I've closed this 50D group. Thank you to everyone who participated well. Goodbye and good riddance to those who ignored the posting restrictions. This is why we can't have nice things.

--

Photos taken with (and diagrams, photos and videos of) Canon's EOS 50D camera, discussions of its merits, flaws (what?) and those little tricks that make a great camera into an indispensable one.

About the pool:

Submissions are limited to one a day. This is done so as to hopefully encourage you to pick your best shot. The goal is to develop a pool that shows diversity, not duplication.

Please don't post reductions of 50D images. Clips are ok; just don't submit images that have been reduced in size. This is a 15-megapixel camera. We want to see your pictures, not your thumbnails!

If your images have watermarks, they must be along the edges, small and tasteful. Images that smash a watermark over the main subject matter aren't of interest to the group and are subject to deletion.

Lastly, if your photos contain nudity or sexuality, they had better strike the admins and moderators as very "artsy" and beautiful and creative and of adults, or they're probably going to get tossed. Really step out line and you could be banned. The body is a lovely thing; make sure you portray it that way.

About the discussions:

Posts and/or threads that are abusive or otherwise do not contribute to the conversation or subject(s) at hand will be summarily removed. Stay on topic, and play nice!

Group Rules

When you join, you AGREE to follow the rules here. So you had best read them:

1) Don't add severely scaled-down versions of 50D images to the group. Reductions for artifact control are ok, 50% at most. Decent sized 100% resolution clips (sections cut out of an image) are ok; just don't submit images that have been significantly reduced in size or are ridiculously small, by which we mean 1023 pixels or less. Why? This is a 15 million pixel camera. A 1023 pixel image is 1/15th of the size of the actual shot and is unacceptable here. We've got a custom robot that regularly checks submissions to the group and deletes them if the only visible size is 1023 pixels or less.

2) If your images have watermarks, they must be along the edges, small and tasteful. Images that smash a watermark over the main subject matter aren't of interest to the group and are subject to deletion as soon as they're spotted.

3) if your photos contain any nudity or sexuality, they had better strike the admins and moderators as very "artsy" and beautiful and creative, or they're going to get tossed. Really step out of line and you could be banned. The body is a lovely thing; make sure you portray it that way. Also, depictions or suggestions of dead creatures or death, deformity, violence, cruelty, torture, instruments of torture and/or non-consensuality will cause images to be removed from the pool, whether sexuality is involved or not.

4) All images of people must be of adults or representations (art) of adults; and further, by posting, you agree that you have obtained legal consent to the degree the laws in your area require from these individuals.

5) Any time there is any question whatsoever about the ability of a human subject of an image to have given informed legal consent, that image is subject to immediate removal.

6) Absolutely no images of violence, self-abuse, heartlessness, cruelty, self-destructive acts, abuse by others, death, torture, suffering, or apparent non-consensuality of any kind. We're showing off the camera here, not "art" or "journalism", and we simply don't need that kind of material.

7) No gang signs, gangster behavior, gangster "styles" or stylings, or upraised middle fingers. Some may call these things culture; I consider them a complete lack thereof.

8) No depictions of death, "bodily functions", significant or obvious injury, or digestive results. A good guideline for this one is if it would cause someone to say "ew, gross', then it's not acceptable.

9) Finally, if an image is simply lousy, is very similar to an image you have already submitted, or portrays any individual in an unflattering manner -- in the opinion of the moderators /admins -- it is subject to removal. Remember, we're trying to show off the camera. Lousy images don't do that; images with mean intent (or zero sense of appropriate portrayal) don't do that. We want variety, quality, respect, and detail.

10) Don't flood the group with "selfies."

11) These rules are subject to change. You agree that as a member of the group, you will regularly look at the group's rules and ensure that posts you make conform to them.
