About Gay Rights Are Civil Rights
In November 2008 the United States voted in Barrack Obama, the first African American president. This vote said to the world that America is getting over it's racist past. But on the same day California voted (by a slim majority) to strip gay citizens the right to marry. This vote took civil rights away from gay people, showing that we may have moved ahead in race relations, but we have a long way to go with civil rights for all people.
People (gay and straight) took to the streets in outrage over the homophobia and hate that was voted okay in California. Protests took place in almost every American city and around the world. The Mormon and Catholic churches funded this bigotry (with false claims and misleading TV ads) and were targeted for protests.
This group documents those days when the world said "ENOUGH", gay and lesbians are citizens and deserve the same rights as everyone else. Proudly display your images of this struggle for equal rights for ALL people!
