Q: What is considered a "Pet"?

A: A pet is an animal kept for companionship and enjoyment or a househeld animal. The most popular pets are noted for their loyal or playful characteristics, for their attractive appearance, or for their song. Pets also generally seem to provide their owners with non-trivial health benefits; keeping pets has been shown to help relieve stress to those who like having animals around. There is now a medically-approved class of "therapy animals," mostly dogs, who are brought to visit confined humans. Walking a dog can provide both the owner and the dog with exercise, fresh air, and social interaction. - wikipedia

Q: What is considered a "Wild Animal"?

A: Wild Animals are undomesticated animals that go untouched by human hands. These animals are not kept as pets, they are wildlife. Wildlife can be found in all ecosystems, Deserts, rainforests, plains, and other areas—including the most developed urban sites—all have distinct forms of wildlife. While the term in popular culture usually refers to animals that are untouched by human factors, most scientists agree that wildlife around the world is impacted by human activities.
Humans have historically tended to separate civilization from wildlife in a number of ways including the legal, social, and moral sense. This has been a reason for debate throughout recorded history. Religions have often declared certain animals to be sacred, and in modern times concern for the natural environment has provoked activists to protest the exploitation of wildlife for human benefit or entertainment. Literature has also made use of the traditional human separation from wildlife. - wikipedia

Q: What if I have a "wild animal" as a pet, can I post pictures?

A: No, you may not post pictures of "wild animals" as they belong in the wild. Owning a wild animal is considered illegal in some places, creatures that are normally never seen really "domesticated" do not belong in the pool. In some countries there are pets that we see as wild such as elephants, camels, and the like. If you can provide us with evidence that the animal is "legally" considered a pet, we may allow it. Otherwise, no.

Q: How many images are allowed per day?

A: There is a total of four (4) images allowed to be uploaded per day, they are reviewed by staff for proper content, as well as following guidelines. The new rule is for each picture you upload, you must comment on at least two on the FIRST two pages. Failing to do so can and will get your image removed from the pool.

Q: What is NOT considered "child" and "workplace" safe?

A: Animal abuse, porn, nudity, hate, racism, and any other form of cruel, rude or unnecessary images. The images who break this rule will be removed, and the uploaded will be put on a permanent ban, and depending on how vial the image is - it could also lead to us reporting it directly to Flickr.

Q: Can I post a picture of a pet that does not belong to me?

A: As long as the owner of the animal is fine with it, we are too! This group is open to pet owners and pet lovers, just because you don't have your own pets or choose to photograph someone elses doesn't mean you cannot upload it to our pool. Just remember, it has to follow the guidelines.

Q: Do I have to comment on images in the pool?

A: As of 10/25/2008, we are requiring that in order to enter a image into the pool, you must provide at least two comments on any image on the first and second page. We do run a pool sweeper, and if we catch you breaking this rule you will first be warned and your image(s) deleted. If you have a second violation, you will be removed from the group along with all of your images in the pool. Which means, you will have to rejoin and repost those pictures.

Q: Who is The Pet "Pool Sweeper," and why is he/she tagging/removing my stuff?

A: As of October, we have put into place a "Pool Sweeper" that monitors images that either do not have comments (since the commenting rule was put into place 10/25/2008) and that do not follow guidelines. Do not worry, this is a bot and does not reflect anyone but the group. Tagging is a new thing, it is not mandatory thing to do, but it does help people find our group if they decided to do a search on Flickr or outside of Flickr. If you do not like the tag, feel free to remove it - but as the The Pet, is a bot, it will automatically put the tag there.

Q: The Pet "Pool Sweeper," removed my image, and I don't see why?

A: IF you feel as though your image was removed without reason, please feel free to contact a staff member with your concerns. You may find their listings farther down on this page, or you can visit the Members Page. We will review your complaint, and tell you if it is okay to resubmit the image - or we can give you a reason it was removed. Since the bot is fairly new, it does make mistakes.

If you have a question you'd like added here, contact a staff member and we will get it up.

GROUP RULES AND GUIDELINES

Failure to abide by the following will result in removal from group,
and possible banishment. These rules are in correlation with the
Flickr Community Guidelines. Anyone found breaking any
community guidelines will be banned, and reported directly to
Flickr staff - we do not take rule breaking lightly. They are put in
place for a reason, and are meant to be followed - if you not able
to abide by rules, please do not join us. Thank you for your time!

Be polite and courteous to all members, even if they are not being so to you. You may report all rude and misconduct to staff at any time, with a link to the proof (I.e- a screenshot, or the comment itself.)

ALL images must be clean and appropriate for young minds, as well as the work environment.

Pet photography ONLY, this is a strict rule. Any image that does not fall into “domesticated animal” will be removed, unless you can provide proof of evidence that would validate the image being in the pool. Don’t bother uploading images that break this rule, multiple violations will lead to removal.

You may only post images that you have taken, not ones you found off the internet. Violating this rule will lead to banning, as well as a report to Flickr staff.

You must respect natures wildlife, you must understand that wild animals are not meant to be pets that they are free living beings and that’s the reason that we have our beloved pets. You must also believe in animal rights, and be a true animal lover.

If your image is rejected, do not submit it again. There is a reason it was not accepted the first time around - reasons for this range from low quality, to being similar to other images that you have submitted in the same time span. Be creative, uniqueness is a plus in this group.

All images are inspected by staff, if they are thought to be breaking a rule they will be rejected - images that are approved are subject to removal at any time. Removal would be caused by an admin thinks the content is inappropriate, of low quality, or repetitive - also, if you are found breaking rules.

Do NOT repost any image without the ok of a staff member, if you are found doing this you will be removed from the group along with ALL images you have posted during your time here. You may rejoin, as long as you understand what you’ve done is not accepted. Do not be greedy - let others have a turn in the spotlight.

Be an active member of the group, join in on discussions or in contest. Make everyone feel welcome, as well as free to discuss problems. This group is meant to be like a family like environment, friendliness and activeness is a must.

Do not post images of any form of animal cruelty, this includes but is not limited to: Slaughter, mistreatment, fighting (you know the dangerous type), blood and gore, sexual explication of animals (it is gross), or caged/starving animals. Images of this type will be removed, and you WILL BE BANNED! It is wrong, and disgusting.

Please comment two times, on any image on the first TWO pages, this is requirement that has been installed as of 10/25/2008 anyone found violating this rule will have their images removed, continuing to break this rule will lead to a removal from the group.

Respect your staff, they do have the power to remove you and your images from the group. Moderators are under the Admins, the Admins do have the final say. Respect it.

Have fun, and be creative! We look forward to seeing your pets.

Please remember that for each photo you post to the pool you must comment twice on someone other than yourself's photo the image must be on the first or second page and you must comment 2 times for each image you upload. A pool sweeper is run regularly and photos from people who fail to comment will be deleted without notice

If your image gets deleted for no reason, or you feel you need to understand why please feel free to contact a staff member to provide you with help.
