In it's heyday U.S. Highway 27 ran from Mackinaw City, Michigan to Miami, Florida. Today it's northern terminus is in Fort Wayne, Indiana having been replaced by I69 from Fort Wayne to Lansing, Michigan and U.S. 127 from Lansing to the merge with I75. U.S. 27 still travels through 6 states on it's mostly two lane journey connecting many small towns and large cities. This pool is about what can be found on the journey up and down this ribbon of highway. Photos from prior alignments, alternate routes, i.e. US 27A & anything along U.S. 127 north of Lansing are also welcome. Also please submit only photos that all can enjoy. Anything else will be deleted.
What's OK here:
This group is for photos taken on U.S. Route 27, or within sight of US-27. I always use the Steak n Shake slogan "In Sight it Must be Right" when referring to US Route groups.. Photos can be of most anything (historical sites, places, signs, parades, small towns, etc) as long as they're located on US-27. In particular, stuff like:
• Old Motels, Cafes, Diners, Stores, businesses; operating or abandoned.
• Shots of the road itself. (Please, make them interesting.)
• Old signs. ...NOT new signs or roadsigns, unless it's something funny or strange.
• Roadside weirdness or kitsch, including vintage roadside attractions and tourist traps.
• Some scenery shots are OK, but we don't want to become a "flowers & sunsets" kinda group.
• Both new and old routings of US-27 are welcome, including Business routes of US-27.
• Ephemera (postcards, pennants, etc) of vintage businesses or roadside attractions directly relating to US-27 are also welcome. Postcards or ephemera must be for subjects located directly on U.S. Route 27.
What we're not looking for:
• No "people shots". We're not really looking for your family or friends, we're looking for things we'd see along the route.
• No photos of your yard, your pets, or similar stuff. Again, we're looking for US-27 shots, the photos of a traveler.
• No "urban grit" sort of stuff. While rural abandonment is fine here, there's other groups for Urbex, graffiti and other big city decay. "Big city" shots that fit the "what's OK" list are fine however. (Old motels, cafes, old signs, etc)
If you're not sure if your photo(s) fit, bring them along. If they don't, we'll remove them, no hard feelings, ok?
NOTE: Please tag your photos with at least the city (or nearest city) and with "US-27". Folks might want to see what you photographed for themselves, so help them find it!
