About Tallgrass Prairie
Welcome to the “Tallgrass Prairie” group. This group is dedicated to the tallgrass prairie and savanna of North America. The once abundant and diverse grassland ecosystem of the midwestern U.S. and southern Canada (southeast Manitoba). This was likely the richest and most complex grassland on the planet. It is also some the richest farm land in North America, which lead to somewhere around 99% of the original prairie being destroyed to the plow. Fortunately there are many restoration projects, both large and small, throughout the midwest region, and a growing interest in the plant, animal, and insect life of the open grassland and savanna.
Any photos related to tallgrass prairie and savanna are welcome; plants, animals, insects, landscapes, and anything else of interest. I would like to restrict this to photos of the midwest prairie, and not the western short grass prairie.
