Overpriced

view profile

> Jon says:

The store is overpriced, to be blatantly honest. $28 and $34 dollar T-shirts with designs on them that could be found at good will for $6.00? Seriously, urban. Lower your T-shirt prices a bit and maybe you'd get some more business. The rest is understandable, but come on.

And do not delete this thread either :)

it can be overpriced bc there's a following
look at american apparel, they are o.p too, and their quality is not that good, the seams fall apart after a few washes and the color on the colored zippers chip off easily....

but I still love these two stores/brands bc sometimes they have cool stuff u cant find, other thatn that I love to shop at etsy for ooak clothing ;)

I love u.o. but I have to agree that it is overpriced. Especially with the economy as it is. But I still shop there when I can because u.o. has the best clothes, and if they can get people to pay that much for a t-shirt and get away with it, who wouldn't I guess? It could be worse.

there needs to be an urban outfitters in australia, because the shipping cost is ridiculous, oh and the fair expensive clothes :(

I'd buy more if it were'nt over priced, you'd get more impulse buyers that way, think about it !

abercrombie and fitch anyone??
They're the masters of over priced clothes. Urban
is not near as expensive....
the thing is that they sell a lot of brands that are
made by real designers so it's automatically
going to be a bit pricy...

I just bought a sweater today :)

consider your self lucky
i love going to see my sister in NY.
like in england say like a t-shirt is £30, but in America its $30 so its half the price pretty much
i never buy stuff from there in the uk as its ridiculous... i always buy too much when i visit - and i swear the stock is so much better in the US

Urban is a lot more expensive than Abercrombie and Fitch. If you've really looked at the prices at UO, you would see that there are $500 coats, while at A&F, they are at MOST 300. UO is def more expensive. And yeah, there clothes are overpriced, but obviously they are doing well with those prices because people still buy the clothes. Works for me, I'm obsessed either way.

agreed, i dont know how many people have gone to thrift stores or swapmeets but if you have then you most likely found the same clothes there 50% cheeper than at urban.

i mean really urban puts a huge dent in your wallet

i overheard this girl talking about thouse feather headbands
it went like this "oh i dont know should i? well if i do then i wont eat"
her friend said "why cant you eat?"
she replied "i wont have enough money to"

and there you go.

but that store is irrestible

Bargain basement. Or whatever it's called in your store. I found a $85 sweater for $20. And $145 jeans for about $15. It's a hard search, but keep lurking and eventually you'll find some treasures in clearance.
And a lot of the times, you can find reasonably priced things. Striped long sleeve shirts, a few months ago, went up for around $28 and they fit great. Shoes, although i don't particularly like their selection, are comparable to the prices most brand-name shoes.

haha give it up, a good amount of the stuff at urbn are overpriced. like a tiny thin skinny belt for $20? :/ i pick and choose what I buy from there, whether its worth the overpriceness. wish they would lower the price a bit but still love the place though.

I love U.O but $30 for a t-shirt made in China... It's not serious. I prefere buy hand made t-shirt produced by wonderfull artists.

because your paying for the name. urban outfitters is like the poster child for trendiness as is american apparel so if people buy their overpriced clothes they are gonna keep em overpriced. i prefer buying handmade clothing on etsy, its still expensive but for a good reason.

UGH i totally agree! urban is way too overpriced, it makes me completely broke. there is so much stuff i want and it's impossible to keep up. i DO have a job, however, no one gives anything to me besides from the money i make at work. it's a let down, and i do think more people would shop at urban if it was cheaper... but then again, that's kind of the beauty of the store... less people shop there, so it's more original and like a store of my own :)

the only thing is... their clearance is actually pretty affordable. either way, it still empties out my wallet in seconds flat.

Yep, clearance! Wait 'til they have a major sale... then it's like... $3.74 shirts & sandals for about $7.

i just joined this group so i comment on this.

Who ever said that American Apparel is overpriced too.. that's because they're garmets are made sweatshop free in downtown LA. UO's garmets and shitty and cost a lot, and are also made in foreign countries. they just piss me off how they charge so much money for cheap clothing and garmets that look like you could find them at a thriftstore

i do like the pictures in their catalogs though

Urban Outfitters is great and the best solution to the expensiveness is sale :) I'm glad American Apparel is sweatshop free, as least that's one less controversy they have to worry about.

Urban Outfitters in America we think is expensive...but i currently live in England and the U.O.'s here I cant shop at because the prices are ridiculous and to even think about the conversion rate from GBP to USD I scream...I just order my things online at the american u.o store then ship it to my home in america then have my family ship it here which in total cost a lot less then purchasing it in the UK...I love U.O. and I cant complain because when the sales are on they are on! and very reasonable...so just wait until that t shirt u love goes on sale...keep an eye on it!

ChristianPedersen  Pro User  says:

As mentioned: the US prices are pretty reasonable compared to those in the UK.

But to respond directly to the op: If it was so easy to stop by your local salvation army or cancer research and pickup "the same shirt" people would. The problem is you can't especially since EVERYONE goes to those places. I go to literally hundreds of those second hand stores in the few cities I frequent and I almost never find something I like that also just happens to fit right. Even if you find something nice it's usually totally gross or at least too small/big. Usually I end up buying something too big and take it to my tailor to have it fitted... the end result? It's more expensive than buying new from some shop. The reason I would do that? Because I CAN'T find it in a shop. and we're back round to the start again. The stuff you find on the high street isn't the same as the stuff you find at your local goodwill.

It's easy to poke fingers at UO because a shirt is $30, but $30 isn't that much unless you're used to shopping at Walmart. If you buy all your clothes at the supermarket then you don't really have an opinion worth listening to.

UO has been having some really good sales lately. Regular prices can be a bit high, but if you watch the site you can score some pretty sweet deals. I recently bought a great looking V-neck for $10, and a cardigan for $20. You just have to be patient, and shop right before seasons change when they're clearing out the inventory.
