Im severly Deaf, I hear certain sounds and others I cant hear any more, and in the future I may hear no more!! I have memories of the sounds I could hear before, but what I want to know is, whats you favorite sound, describe how it sounds and tell me why you like it!! :) ita all fun enjoy :)

I adore the sound of 8bit nintendo music!! I can still hear it, as long as its loud, and It takes me back to when I was small fighting with my older brother for the game controler in our room, oh them be the days, and to me it sounds like how bouncing should sound like!! :)

Thanx for the invite, the birds chirping..they start at about 4:30 am, lil darlings or was that starling? I live in a village of 5k in the mountains..several kills run through it...between the sound of the birds in my yard and the rushing water reminds that I am a small part of nature

My university has an 18-story building and every Halloween they drop pumpkins from the top of it. A pumpkin hitting the ground from that high up and shattering is one of the most satisfying sounds I've ever heard. It's a wonderful hollow *thump*, almost like when you hit your stomach and get that empty sound. It isn't beautiful or ephemeral or anything, but it is intensely satisfying.

My son (13.1/2) and I recently went to the airport to take some shots of planes landing. Things were going along as expected until this small jet flew over:

Arrival I

We heard the most unexpected and distinctive sound about 10 seconds or so later - like two knives thrashing in the air above us, alternating between left and right, slowly descending. As the sound grew louder, the dust and grass around us began to blow and whirl. The show ended as unexpectedly as it began, and after it was over we looked at each other and silently smiled. "That was so cool!", C exclaimed, "Like aliens invading!". We didn't hear anything like it for the rest of the evening, easily making it a moment that we'll be able to share for quite a while.

the sounds of dogs:
1.the sound of their soft breathing.
2. their bark, with various alert sounds from fear to joy.
3. the lap of their tongue drinking water, licking you.
4. the sound of their eating their food.
5. the sound of the dog walking on carpet and hardwood floors.
6, dogs hiccup at times.

silent sounds of love--heat haikus

the day is far away
restless night but a full heart
watching my love breathe

a small light nearby
is all i need to see her
and she is lovely

her breast barely moves
creating shadow shimmers
under the satin

i pull the sheet down
to reveal that perfect form
slowly and softly

i move closer now
so her beauty fills my space
and steal a small kiss

she moves and i freeze
but she's still asleep and smiles
and she keeps dreaming

sunlight red on glass
cut sharply separated
in beads of water

the day is now here
i know she's had enough sleep
i rouse her for love

(orig pub on my spymac blog, long since abandoned...and i don't trust how they handle © now, so purged from there)

Hiya Lette,

I'm trying to think of my favorite sound- but as a fellow deafie, that's a hard one to think of.

My favorite silence on the other hand- that's an easy one- that's the part of my day between waking up and putting in my hearing aids. It's a peaceful way to start the day!

Okay- I've come up with a sound: rain. summer thunder showers where the drops pound the earth- that's a sound I never tire of. (All the better if there's thunder!)

I'd never been in a real good thunderstorm til we moved to Chicago. There are so many tall buildings though, that even when you see the lightning, you don't always get the full thunderclap. I think my favorite sound, one that I'd love to find a way to record, is the sound of thunder from a nearby lightning strike because it is a distinctive multi-part sound:

1) dull thoomp (compression-style)
2) short, sharp medium-volume crack
3) very loud, explosive pop (decompression-style)
4) extended, falling-off rumble

Parts 1,2 & 3 all happen in the course of a second or second-and-a-half.

It's been truly impressive when the lightning is arcing right over our street.

What can I say? These are my favourite birds, their patience is beyond anything a human could ever muster. They can stand still for hours, often all day, peering into the dark water, just waiting for a fish to pass. Sometimes they slowly move...one leg at a time...after their prey, always very quietly and always very slowly....until they grab!!
I hear only my own breathing when I am around them. I try to remain as still as them and as quiet as them, but I never can. They are built for the long watch, I like to be moving.

Well these are odd little things Lette. They remain mainly slient. Even when the big guy was attacking the smaller one and caught its wing in its beak neither of them made a sound.
I did inwardly start swearing though when my CF card filled up, and by the time I got a new one in the fight was over. But to the outside observer, and to my own ears.....there just wasn't a sound.

It's far from dancing you were reared.....
