About Can I take your picture?
"Can I take your picture?"
-images of people - strangers or casual acquaintances - you have approached in the street and asked for permission to photograph. No "spy shots", please. No pictures of objects or animals. You can't honestly ask either for permission. No self-portraits, unless you've got multiple personality disorder.
-discussion about the ethics of photography and in particular of the role of consent in photography in public spaces.
When adding images to this group, please feel encouraged to comment about the circumstances of taking the photograph - how well did you know the person? what made you want to photograph them? How did you approach them? How did they respond? How posed is the image, i.e. What kinds of instructions or guidance did you give them (if any) while taking their picture? What was your interaction like?
As a viewer of these images, please feel free to ask the contributors questions: what did it feel like to take this picture? How do you think they felt after you left? What do you think makes a "good" photo in such circumstances?
GROUP RULES:
1. No spysots or maliscious photos, please.
2. No self-portraits, no photos of animals or inanimate objects.
3. While everyone is certainly eager to spend hours poring over every one of your masterpieces, please do not submit more than 3 images at a time.
