About Mini QT Swap
Hello all mini quilt swappers!
What we do here...
We are trading mini quilts with our assigned partners every other month. (Our swap cycle) Quilt sizes are ranging from 6" to 12" or any rectangle or other shape in between. We design, create, sew, quilt and bind, a mini quilt that is based on our selected theme that month for your partner. The themes range from traditional type quilting to artistic. (Note we are always open for new ideas; feel free to share your thoughts with one of the Mamas)
Creating your mini:
Please use natural fibers: Cotton, Linen, or wool.
Your finished mini should have three layers, top, batting, and a back. Sandwich the three layers together with a fabric binding or prairie points. (No zigzag edges!)
Your mini can be constructed by: Piecing, appliquéd, whole cloth, or yo-yos; quilted by hand or machine; and bound.
Embellish at will with embroidery, rickrack, pearl cotton, buttons, beads, etc.
Please use quality materials.
When in doubt start a thread or ask the swap mama! Love seeing new ideas and techniques!
Labels: Please if possible, sew a label to the back of your finished quilt or sign and date it with a fine fabric pen. It is not required, but it would be nice to see who, what, where, the mini came from. Do a search for quilt labels in the flicker pool to get ideas or ask your fellow swapper’s for ideas.
Deadlines to keep in mind:
Our swap cycles run bi monthly.
Signups will begin the 15th of every other month.
We will close it two weeks later on the last day of the month.
Partners will be assigned within 24 hours and posted the first few days of the beginning of the new month (the beginning of the new swap cycle). Note: Mamas could close the signups a bit earlier if they need to, so sign up early!
You have 6 to 7 weeks to design, sew and finish your mini for your partner. Your mini needs to be finished and in the mail no later than the last day of our swap cycle. (End of the second month) As we get close to the end of the swap cycle, Mamas will do their best to remind swappers of the approaching deadline.
Play Time Rules:
1- Sorry we must say this, our swap is on the HONOR SYSTEM! When you sign up, please remember you have a partner that is counting on you. If you are too busy with life, please don't sign up! We truly understand that "life gets in the way", so good communication with your partner and or one of the mamas if you are going to be late is a must! Take a quick 5 minutes to let someone know if you are going to be late or cannot follow through with your mini. We don't know if something is wrong if you don't tell us!
2- No "negativity" will be tolerated! Please FM your concerns to one the Mamas for help. Remember all quilting levels participate here. We will do our best to assign the right partner to you. The Mamas volunteer their time and energy to run this fun swap as smoothly a possible. So please be patient with us, and let’s leave “grumpy” outside the door!
3-Stay in contact with your partner, or post-sneak peeks (photos) so that your partner can see what you are doing and how you are progressing! Let's make our swap fun, full of photos and conversation if we can! Nothing is more discouraging than a partner that does not keep you updated!
4- Please acknowledge and thank your partner for the mini quilt you receive! Remember your partner put a lot of time and energy into designing this mini quilt for you. We recommend you take that extra final step to thank you partner "personally" through a FM (Flicker Mail) Sometimes the thanks are missed in a thread or photos. Please remember to FM your partner a personal thank you!
5-Since you know who your partner is, please only post “sneaky pics” of your work in the photo pool until your partner has received their mini from you.
6-****Unfinished minis and or minis sent after the deadline. ****
You will not be allowed to participate in the next swap until you are caught up. Think of this not as punishment, but as an opportunity to take a break to catch up. Mamas will enforce this rule! . Remember you have a partner that is counting on you!
