About Shooting Strangers

Shooting Strangers is about going out into the world and taking compelling pictures of people you don't know. It's about expanding your comfort zone and improving your people skills. To that end, we're going to run contests. The contests will be handled in discussion threads. The pool will be open to two submissions per day and you don't have to enter a contest to put your shots in our pool but if you do want to enter contests, your submissions must go into the pool.

Photo Submission Guidelines

1. Main subject of the photo must be a person or persons that you've never met before.

The group is called Shooting Strangers, not Shooting Acquaintances or Shooting Family Members. (No, they still don't count even if they are strange.) It's also not called Shooting Clients or Shooting Paid Models. This is about shooting strangers with whom you have no real relationship, business or otherwise.

2. The subject must know they are being photographed and must permit it either explicitly or implicitly.

No private detective stuff. Sitting in your car with a 300mm and shooting people as they leave the hotel doesn't count. Your camera must be obvious to your subject. And it must be obvious that you are using it to take their picture. And they mustn't have told you not to. I think that sums it up.

3. You must go to your subject.

Taking pictures of guests you don't know who show up at your house for your famous annual barbecue doesn't really fit into the spirit of this. The point is to photograph people you don't know in public. Or at least on someone else's private property.
