14 Jul 08 - Hello everyone;
I've had to 'deny' a few more photos, which unfortunately doesn't allow me to post any comments when I do it, to explain why it was rejected. So please to avoid surprises, I want to ask members to read the suggestions on the main page re: what kind of images this group was created to collect.

Most specifically - legibility is key. If the epitaph isn't readable in the photo, it won't be accepted. Secondly please it must be an epitaph - not just dates or facts. Thank you!

About Last Words: Memorable Epitaphs

This group is to be a spinoff of a cemetery sculpture group I belong to. I've begun to notice not just beautiful statues, but often poignant words on tombstones, and so wanted to create a place to collect them. Please try to add where (country, city) you found each one.

Rules for posting: The image must capture an epitaph.
An epitaph is "an inscription on a tombstone in memory of the one buried there". It is not a sculpture. It is not a photo, not a graphic, not an illustration.

Other words of advice would be to please choose quality over quantity. Make sure that the epitaph is readable. Post only those epitaphs that are truly memorable - something that made you say 'wow' - or that stuck with you after you walked away. Haunting, poignant, touching, unique, funny or sad.

Here is the code to use when inviting a worthy Epitaph into the pool. Copy and paste the entire section below:

"You are invited to please post this wonderful image to a new group where Epitaphs are being collected: Last Words: Memorable Epitaphs"

Thank you!
