About Critique, as a practical matter

I've noticed that critique, and commentary aren't really happening. Some groups try to force it (post one, comment on "X"), but that' doesn't work.

The group setting is moderate: Flickr isn't really clear about what makes "moderate. I think figure studies and "artistic" nudes qualify. "Violent" images probably don't. I'll purge the ones that cross the line. I won't bounce the user, unless it's repetitive.

If you don't want to see things which aren't, "safe", adjust your filters. It's not our job to keep you from seeing things you don't like.

Simple comments, "This is a great picture,", This picture doesn't work," aren't all that useful. Don't worry that you don't have the right language, so long as the comments are descriptive, they are helpful.

Critique can be painful. It hurts to find out people see flaws in our work. But to improve requires taking a hard look at one is doing, and we can't always see what it is we are struggling to convey.

To make space for really detailed commentary discussions are private (though photos are visible to anyone).
