Hi! I hate competitions because I always feel the urge to win... So this one will guaranty my sanity.

- Deadline: 31st December 2008 - You have plenty of time, read on.

- Subject: It is hard to use only one word for that so:

- Description of the Subject:

Each contestant will shoot on a 120 roll using the 6x4.5 format. Two subsequent frames of the roll, although shot at a different place and with several days difference must tell a story. Any story... No words, no titles, no descriptions or hints. Shhh.... you must let each judge/member/guest think of their own one

Qualities:
Idea: 50% (How unique and smart it is)
Overall aesthetics: 30% (How nice the result is...)
Technicalities: 20% (How good the pictures are, exposure etc)

Judges:
MK: She is an art critic, art lover, not particularly fond of photography. She is our 50%-Idea
KA: He is a painter, well known in Greece with several exhibitions on his own. He is the 30%-Aesthetics
PH (me): Photographer. I am the 20%-Technicalities. See? I cannot even favor myself that way...

Q&A:
Q: Can I use 6x6 format?
A: Since I love the idea of this competition, yes you can, but you will only be entitled to the challenge if your results are exceptionally good!

Q: Can I use Infrared?
A: You can use any type of film, of any brand, either negative, slide, IR or B&W

Q: I don't completely understand the description of the challenge...
A: Simplified: Any two subsequent frames that have been shot at a different place, even if one was shot at October and the other on December, but - I repeat myself- at a different place can be submitted. And they must imply a story.

Q: I still don't get it, may I have an example please?
A: Of course, e.g. frame #3 is a balloon in the sky and #4 is a girl crying in the back-yard, or #6 is some robbers exiting a bank and #7 is a policeman or a dog barking -seriously, you wouldn't post this, would you?

Q: Can I digitally manipulate my frames so as to mislead and confuse you to think that the frames are indeed subsequent?
A: That would be cheating, wouldn't it?

Q: Can I digitally enhance my photos?
A: Basic Levels/Curves adjustment pose no threat

Q: Do I get something if I win?
A: You get total respect and appreciation from the rest of the members, you get the others to secretly envy your victory and maybe you will get some Hahnemuhle Photorag if I manage until the end of the competition to talk someone into it....

Q: I am a materialistic person and I definitely want to get something.
A: The first three winners will get the winning frames-story-tellers printed by post with their names so you can hang it on the wall and admire it. Seriously, yes.

Q: I have other question not covered here, can I ask?
A: Of course, go ahead!

Q: I have a suggestion that could make this competition really blossom. Can I share it with you?
A: Of course, go ahead!

Q: Do you feel scared that nobody may enter the challenge and you will end writing all this for nothing, being embarrassed and laughed at while you are approaching a state of schizophrenic behavior with this Q&A with your self?
A: Of course, go ahead!

How can you verify that I took the shots multiple days apart? Do you want an obvious time indicator in the background? Are you trying to make us shoot a visual haiku/diptychs? This is almost criminal...

Oh, and where do we submit? And can we submit something that has already been shot?

There is no way I can verify the time lapse but there no need since there is always a time lapse between the two frames. This can vary from a fraction of a second to a couple of weeks, any, really. Time is really not important here...

The idea is to make the participants be aware of their environment through their day while they are trying to identify a nice sequential shot to be their next one....

For example, you see with your photographic eye something at 09:00 and you take a picture of it. At 13:00 or (after a week maybe) you see something that could connect with your previous picture and you shoot it! Here you are! Now you have two sequential frames that imply a unique story for you, make other people imagine their own, and you are ready to submit them. If the picture that you haveto take at 13:00 is not connected to the previous one then you shoot it nevertheless and this becomes your first frame now and so on....

It is interesting and definitely different though, right?

Concerning stock, if it happens that you have a roll from which two frames comply with the rules i.e. they imply a story, then by all means please do!

It is a visual diptych! You are so right! Please submit it here, in this thread or suggest me an alternative better way if you know... Glad you are interested, waiting for your frames!

Hi, i was wondering if there is any kind of specifications regarding those 2 shots...posting a unique dyptich file or each photos separately ? Photos should have a minimum size ?
Thx in advance for your answer.
