About verb(-ing ending) + noun (no article)
i had originally thought that the earliest extant example of this template was raising arizona (1987) but educating rita (1983) has it beat.
most common and recognizable in the "verb(-ing ending) + proper noun" format, this template for titling movies, magazine or news articles, or television shows has spread like kudzu... and yet "new" titles pop up regularly!
awareness must be created!
attention must be paid!
examples must be documented.
do not stray from the format. no adverbs (desperately seeking susan.) no articles before nouns! (two-word proper nouns such as "private ryan" and "jessica stein" are okay.) dvd and vhs rental boxes, magazine and news article titles, listings for tv shows, book titles... all fair game.
