About landscape architecture 632 2005

This group displays projects for the re-use of the demonstration ponds at the John T. Lyle Center of Regenerative Studies.

Each group project investigates a contemporary water topic relevant to the knowledge base of the landscape architecture profession.

These projects follow a process of design concept proposal and investigation of relevant systems to the proposal. The next phase includes the crafting of design guidelines, to evaluate the success of the designs, and then design development.

The students then use evaluative models to refine their design, and investigate pertinent details that reveal the nature of the design concept.

Here is the mission statement for the Lyle Center, and a link to the page.

Center for Regenerative Studies
Mission Statement and Goals

The mission of the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies is to advance the principles of environmentally sustainable living through education, research, demonstration and community outreach. Fundamental to this mission is the design of interdependent, self-renewing life support systems using ecological principles that integrate the needs of society with the integrity of nature. This mission is achieved through:

1. Innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs, which integrate the theory and practice of sustainable living and set national standards for excellence.
2. An internationally respected program for interdisciplinary environmental research involving a diverse group of students, scholars and practitioners.
3. Creation of a knowledge base that integrates scientific/technological knowledge with contextual knowledge of human culture as represented by the humanities and social sciences.
4. A supportive, participatory, and open culture of students, scholars, and visitors that is a model of cooperative learning and living.
5. Community outreach to the College, University and communities outside the University, which demonstrates environmentally sustainable living using experimental life support systems.
6. Regenerative development and stewardship of the resources of the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies.
