Hey Paul,
Great idea, but I will be out of town. Would love to be apart of the next one.

If there are many people still out of town we can put this off a week or two.

Great idea, and I would like to join. Unfortunately, I would prefer to do it on the 5th. I have a photo-gig with the NRG on the 4th. Might be better to do it a week or so later just in case of people still out for Memorial Day vacations.

Paul,
Sounds great. The 4th or 5th would work out great for me. Usually the meet-ups fall on my work call weekend. I haven't been able to make a Strobist meet-up yet, just the Flickr group.
I really need to do some work with lighting.

This sounds great! But I've got a wedding to attend on Saturday, so preferably the 5th of Sunday would work better for me. Keep me posted on the final date! : )

Looks like we might go with the 5th then, 2PM. Sorry to the folks who can't make it out. Hopefully we can make this a semi-regular thing.

Fantastic, Stacy and Mike.
I've set up an Eventbrite event, so I can track the number of photographers to be sure we've got enough models. If you all wouldn't mind heading over to indystrobist.eventbrite.com/ and signing up that'd be great.
I set the ticket price at $15. Eventbrite will charge a small service fee, so I think the total comes out to $16 and change. If anyone's going to have trouble swinging the $16, or don't feel they'll be around long enough to justify the cost let me know with an email or Flickr message, we can work something out.

Paul, I'm really hoping to make this but won't know family weekend commitments until mid-week. I'll signup if I can make it.

So far here's who I've got signed up:
Diablo:

Bo:

and Christian:

My plan is to set up some peg board, so we can make some shots like this:

I'll also bring the thin dropcloth plastic I used for Diablo's portrait up above. I can set up a white sweep as well, if anyone's interested in playing with that.

Thanks Steve!
I hope everyone's ok with using Eventbrite. At other Strobist meetups I've been to, so much time was spent trying to get everyone signed in and get the money for the models collected that I thought it'd be good to get that out of the way beforehand, if possible.

Paul,
Would love to make it but I will not know until the day of. IF I show up without going through Eventbrite would I be able to 'pay at the door'?
If you would prefer to have the number of people set and would not like door crashers, I totally understand.

Thoughts on model releases? I'd like to print one up, but wasn't sure what we should limit usage to. Or if we should limit usage. Anyone care?

And some final thoughts: I'd like to pair photographers who are new to lighting with experienced photographers, where we can. (...and for those photographer who would like to work in a small team.)
Things to remember:
Charge your batteries and bring extras.
Label your stuff. Even if it's some gaffer tape with your initials.
If you haven't signed up on Eventbrite bring $15.
Realize that optical slaves will probably be a pain, with so any lights going off. If you don't have radio triggers you'll probably have to share. We'll be sharing anyway so this shouldn't be a big deal.

Sorry I missed this. I had a lesson to do with a photo student, some air to fly in, and I work so much I needed to hang out with the kids a little. I got some wedding photo editing done in there too. There just wasn't time to make it to this. I hope there's another one when I'm not so busy! Looks like it was an awesome shoot.

Paul, agree. Had a great time. I could have spent the entire shoot just watching others taking shots. Next time we should have someone taking video and then we could put together a short movie of the event! The location, the photographers, the photo kit, the models (who by the way were really perfect for the setting) was excellent. What I like seeing are the photos everyone took. Someone might have taken the exact same image, but combined with slightly different lighting, slightly different angle, and different post processing the image was completely different.
Next up downtown alley work with models at night......

After I got home I really wished that I would have taken some video. I keep forgetting that my D7000 has that ability. I'll definitely have to do that next time!
I agree about seeing everyones photos. I commented on one of Paul's photos about something similar. He chose to keep one of his images rather soft (in terms of lighting/contrast) and I went in and added major contrast during the editing process. They end up looking like 2 pretty different photos. I've noticed that a couple of times while going through everyone else's stuff...it's so interesting! So cool to see a scene that you shot through someone else's eyes.
We've definitely got some talented people in Indy!

Sure thing, everyone, that was a really great time. Here's a bit of a recap:
I've got my lighting setup spelled out in the two images I've posted, check them out here and here.
The arm that eveyone liked is Manfrotto's Variable Friction Magic Arm, here it is at Robert's: robertscamera.com/variable-friction-magic-arm-without-cam... You can also get it with a camera platform: robertscamera.com/variable-friction-magic-arm-with-camera...
I would get the "variable friction magic arm" over the older "magic arm", the old magic arm has a lever, rather than a knob you turn, and the lever takes a little bit of pressure to work, in some situations this can be a pain.
Here's Diablo on Facebook: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=537578223
Here's Bovary on Facebook: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000663818294
Here's Amanda on Facebook: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1163401147
I know I worked pretty fast and maybe didn't explain much as I went along, anyone have any questions? Some things I'd change: I wished I'd played with the smoke sooner. I could have used one more Pocket Wizard Plus II, but we did fine with setting the Quadra pack as an optical slave. I wish I'd brought in Bovary sooner, Ashley's pictures with the two of them are really great, especially with the flare of the flash shining between the two of them. I also wish I'd put the gel on the Ranger down below us sooner.
Again, thanks a ton for coming out and making the afternoon such a blast.
p.s. Video would be awesome next time.
