About Irish London
Irish Londoners, whether they be first, second or many generations out of Ireland are a pretty low profile group in modern London even though it is reckoned one in six Londoners could claim so Irish heritage.
In the past, Irish Londoners were much more obvious, working on building sites, on the buses and Underground or in the health service and in many of the low paid jobs that are nowadays filled by newer arrivals in Britain.
I hope this group can demonstrate something of that great Irish London tradition that is still out there. This group IS NOT about the London Irish Rugby team, they have their own group LONDON IRISH. The group is more about what marks that Ireland and the Irish have left on modern-day London - events, music, pubs, Irish faces etc.
It would be great to see modern representations as well as you or your family's older pictures from last century - the post WWII influx for example - there must be thousands of pictures in boxes showing the Irish in London - get scanning!
