03 Jan 13 - I am very thankful for all the photographers who have sent and will send photos to the group. It is wonderful that just one building has gathered so many photos.
Happy New Year 2013 for all the members. Thank you for all the photos.

About Oslo Opera House (Operahus)

"π-nocchio (a group admin of 'Operahouses Worldwide) says:
Oslo Opera house is one of many great Opera houses round in the world. The building is well worth photographing, and it definitely deserves it's own group on Flickr. "

The group was founded in December 2007, when photos on the opera house started to appear on Flickr. It was interesting to see whether the Oslo opera house warranted a group on its own. Please encourage also others to join the group and tag your photo "oslooperahouse(operahus)".
The group includes also a few photos of the old opera house on Brugata.

The new operahouse in Oslo was designed by the renowned architecture firm Snøhetta after winning an international contest in 2000. The building area is 38,500 square meters and consists of more than 100 rooms. In the main hall, a 1,370- strong audience will be able to enjoy a performance and the great acoustics which have been the main focus throughout the building process.

The gala opening took place on April 12 2008 .
Only 200 tickets were sold to the general public for the grand opening. The rest of the seats were reserved for royalty, government officials, architects, sponsors, etc.
The ticket prices, at NOK 1490 (almost USD 300), did apparently not put off the public. There was also a small number of "standing" places available for about half the price.
