How do I know if I have been on Explore?

This thread explains how to discover that you've made Explore.

Wait, I used to be on Explore, now I'm not anymore! Did the algorithm change????

This thread identifies algorithm changes.

This thread identifies what staff has said about Explore.

This thread and this thread identify what others have said about Explore.

Wait -- those threads are full of Donkey dung. I think there is a conspiracy going on... Besides, I and only I know Explore works. And besides, I think it's broken.

You are looking for the My Photo is Perfect; Explore Must Be Broken thread, here.

What can I post in this group's pool?

See here.

How do I invite others to join this group?

Go here, and copy the invite the code, spreading it far and wide.

Is this group serious, or are you a bunch of goons?

Sorry, we don't answer rhetorical questions; it's sacrilegious.

I'm not being rhetorical. Are you guys for real or are you guys not?

We are real.

C'mon, I mean it. Why are you being so mean about it? Do you guys understand Explore or not?

Yes, we understand that no one except the Silent Observer understands Explore.

Who is the Silent Observer?

He was the Explore guy at Flickr. Now it's.... I'd tell you but.... [redacted]

OK, so is this group serious or a farce?

We're serious. Oh. Yes.

I think you guys are a bunch of Nazis, you won't answer any question directly.

Thanks for proving Godwin's Law.

The FAQ, Part Two,
or Serious Answers to Basic Questions:

How do I find out if I'm in Explore?

Use Scout.

Scout is broken! What do I do?

Go complain to fd in his group.

How do I get into Explore?

Lots of myths abound. Read through our threads to find out what others have said, including staff. We do know that views, tags, geotags, comments, faves, and EXIF data are part of the mix that gets a photo into Explore. But there are no guarantees.

How come I've never made it into Explore?

A computer program chooses the 500 photos a day that get into Explore. There are 5000 photos a minute uploaded. Do the math.

Also, screenshots and art/illustration do not make Explore, neither do moderate, restricted or private images.

I used to be in Explore, now I never get into Explore. Have I been banned or what?

They change the computer program often, so what may have once worked to get you into Explore may not work anymore. Also, every day, hundreds of new users join Flickr, lessening your odds of making Explore.

Should I report a problem with Explore to the Help Forum?

Only if 500 images are not appearing today. There is no point in reporting any other problems. You can complain here to us if you like.

The FAQ, Part Three,
or Some Other Questions:

I still don't get this group?

OK, well, we are here to answer your Explore questions and to explain both Explore and Interestingness as best we can. Note that only staff really understands how the algorithm called Interestingness really works.

OK, how come one of my photos has 3,000 views, 300 comments, & 75 faves, and yet it is not listed as the top Interesting photo in my stream even though it has more activity than any other image in my stream?

Because Interestingness is not the sum of all faves, comments, and views. It is a formula that takes many factors into account. This combination of factors is a secret, and one that changes constantly.

I think my photo is perfect, yet it has not made Explore, so Explore is broken. Where do I post this info?

Use this thread. Do not open a new thread.

I think this group is funny, that Explore is perfect, and my photos suck. Where do I post this info?

Use this thread. Do not open a new thread.

Did I get banned from Explore?

No. That is doubtful. Sometimes, some images that are offensive in nature do get pulled from Explore. Flickr gets to do what they want with Explore.

I have an Explore theory -- where do I post it?

Use this thread -- do not open a new one.

If you found a really insane conspiracy theory, post it here instead.

If you think the algorithm has changed, post it here.

OK, I still don't get this group.

OK, we are here sometimes to be silly, so don't be surprised if something you post gets ridiculed. Do not take it personally.

Don't be rude to others. Take it all in a playful manner.

Do not be overly serious about Explore -- we aren't. Most of us do not take Explore seriously, and we are here to help you not take it so seriously. See this thread.

We are also here to be serious at times, and to help users understand Interestingness.

I repeat -- only staff understands Interestingness, it is not the sum of all views, comments, and faves, and it is simply a method -- a computerized method -- of selecting a series of photos for display. It is not a contest. It is not a game. It is just there for fun.

If you never make Explore, that is not an indication of how good or bad you are as a person or as a photographer.

No one has a right to make Explore.

No one outside of staff has the knowledge to make sense of Explore.

We do not work for Flickr.

This group is here for fun.
