28 Nov 08 - Like Philip Pullman's Ancient of Days, I have been absent from the list for some time. This has been ungrateful, so intend now to take an interest again in the gorgeous pictures people have been uploading.

About Plant photography

As afficionados of BBC Radio 4 will know, a couple of years back the Midweek programme - on a Wednesday, wacky idea for a wacky proggie - had on the American comedienne, Joan Rivers, and British-Trinidadian broadcaster and social commentator, Robert Elms... no... Darcus Howe.

So eclectic, so usual, then the Brooklyn-gal, Rivers, listens as Howe cites just about every sociological reason for his son's, Amiri, drift towards handling stolen passports except the one about his being one of seven children fathered by four women. Not that all single parent families result in this (another of Howe's children is a successful television producer), but a possible cause, Rivers thought.

And she speaks her mind, and what followed was Radio Clash as poor old Libby Purves, in the middle, tried to maintain her composure and dampen down the mother of all dinner party rows.

At the end, in final desperation, she suggested, “Shall we talk about plant photography?”..

So, shall we? Shall we talk about any small moments of calm which were not created by humans so cannot be disrupted by rancour and bickering and discord?

Plants are preferred, but rocks or flowing water or skyscapes or anything still and peaceful will be gladly accepted.
