About Fire Switches

Post your pics of fire switches and their signs here. Old ones with lovely old lettering are particularly appreciated.

These functional items are usually situated near the front entrance of commercial premises and are used by the emergency services to turn off the power before the hoses are used to fight fires. In larger premises such as department stores they are often at the back of the store and usually about 3 metres from the ground, presumably to prevent kids tampering with them.

As there are no trends and fashions in fire switches, they don't tend to be replaced when premises are modernised or rebranded. Neon signs periodically get replaced, fascias are remodelled but the fire sign just goes on and on, getting grimier as the years pass.
