About Richard Steinheimer: The Art of Trains
Dedicated to the art work of Richard Steinheimer, Dean of western railroad photography. Steinheimer's photos are known for their rejection of the 1/3 "wedge" angle popular among many rail photographers, and incorporation of the environmental context the train exists in, often incorporating his subjects' surroundings in unique ways.
If you're not familiar with Steinheimer's work, look here for a few examples. Also check the images in the pool
THIS GROUP POOL IS MODERATED
That means that I'll be reviewing each photo submitted before it goes in. While I'm not going to make this like Railpictures.net and reject your image if its not a perfectly lit shot made from the train's bright side, on a sunny day, I will reject any image that doesn't fit in with the artistic style of the group's namesake.
Shots likely to be accepted include: narrative shots, shots under adverse weather or lighting conditions (really any good night shots), and shots from all angles that place the train in a larger environmental context, or incorporate elements of the scene in a unique way.
What I don't want are wedge or roster shots with nothing else going on. You're wedgie is probably going to get rejected, unless there's something very special about the surroundings or conditions it was taken under, no matter how technically high quality it is. If it's really that good, submit it to railpictures, they love a technically well executed wedgie.
