21 Dec 10 - So I tried to condense and simplify the posting rules for the group which I ask everyone to please keep in mind before submitting images, which are -

- Please do not post ANY photos that have people or manmade objects in them (you'll notice there are, well, none of those in the pool since this is, uhh, a landscape group)
- Oh, and yeah, no colour images please (I know, I know but they actually get submitted)

cheers

About Fine Art Classic Black and White Landscape

Group avatar = White House Ruin by Tom Westbrook - an exemplary photograph of a fine art, classic black and white landscape.

Random Images from the group's pool - came across this tool FlickRandom (created by GustavoG) the other day and thought it may be a neat way to randomly resurrect some excellent images posted many months ago.

Original group description.

There seems to be a lack of general appreciation for fine art, classic black and white landscape photography on Flickr - and so my aim is to set up a group that cultivates it.

It is hard to define exactly what "Fine Art" and "Classic" mean, but here's a stab -

- "Fine Art" means a photograph that is technically superior - if not perfect. It means a photograph that has exceptional composition. A photograph you would imagine seeing on display in a gallery. I'd be willing to say fewer than 1% of someone's mass of images would fall into this category, so please keep that in mind before submitting your work (i.e. please submit only what you feel is your absolute finest).

- "Classic" means images of vast landscapes, national parks, familiar subjects (but *not* cliched images themselves - there is a difference). Yes, there are thousands of photographs of Mount Rainier, El Capitan, Mount Shuksan - but a fine black and white image of such a subject with striking lighting and excellent contrast (i.e. technically sound as well as beautifully composed as described above) will always have merit.

Before submitting your images, please be respectful of the following simple rules -

- no man-made objects or people in the photograph
- no colour photographs

I know this is a very niche corner of the photographic community - and that's why I think it is important to have a group of photographers dedicated to capturing inspiring black and white images of classic landscapes where we can appreciate the work of each other.

In addition, I will be keeping the moderated pool - well - very moderated. I surmise very few images submitted will be accepted in order to keep this group special and distinct from the thousands of other black and white groups littering Flickr.

In case you want to leave a comment on someone's photograph and leave a calling card, I'm including this blurb that you can paste into your comment so the person knows where the comment is coming from -
