About Historic Graffiti (North America)

I spend a lot of time taking pictures of Native American rock art, and in a lot of the Western US early explorers and settlers and others left their names in the same pathways the Native Americans used to get around. Sometimes even on top of the very rock art I'm there to see, which makes me pretty unhappy. But I thought some of these photos might be interesting to people chasing down genealogy -- who was where when etc. Thus this group.

Some ground rules:

(0) The graffiti has to be in North America.

(1) The older the better. Before 1900 is best, anything from 1950 or newer will be deleted as soon as I notice it, anything between will probably depend on my mood on that particular day.

(2) Related to (1), the graffiti should contain a date.

(3) Please repeat the contents of the graffiti in your title and/or description and/or tags. (I'm going to have to update mine for this.)

(4) At least an approximate location (such as the nearest town etc.) should be given. Preferably you would place it on the map if possible.

Thanks!
