About Tails for Whales

Hello.
Welcome to http://www.tailsforwhales.org, a photographic project to help save the whales from the many threats that they face.
In protest of the killing of 551 whales in 2008 by the Government of Japan in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, IFAW (the International Fund for Animal Welfare) created http://www.project551.org, a collection of photographs of Australians making a whale tail with their hands to illustrate their support for take action to end whaling once and for all.
Photos poured in from all over Australia and it caught the imagination of people from around the world with email requests asking if they too could take part. From familiar faces to farmers, office workers to school children, the images display an incredible cross section of all races, religions, ages and regions. What joins them all together is that these people represent the vast majority of people globally who want to be a part of protecting whales.
The breadth of support from around the world has been so great that IFAW has created something new – http://www.tailsforwhales.org.
http://www.tailsforwhales.org is about showing your support for all measures to protect whales and their environment. Whales face more threats today than ever before – ship strikes, ocean noise, climate change and marine debris all take their toll on the survival of the world’s largest mammals. And despite all these threats and a global whaling ban Japan, Norway and Iceland are still slaughtering whales in commercial quantities.
While IFAW works around the world to protect whales from these threats you can add your support by sending us a photo of yourself making a whale tail with your hands.
Add your photo to http://www.tailsforwhales.org and show your support. You can share your photos from your Flickr page (but please tell us where you are from) or visit our website to add your photo and send us a message.

Thanks for your support
