The Cat
The Sri Lankan Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) locally known as Kotiya is one of the eight known subspecies of leopard, and is thought to be one of the largest, although research is still to confirm this. Its coat is tawny or rusty yellow, stamped with dark spots and rosettes

A recent study has shown that Yala (Ruhunu) National Park, Block 1 has one of the highest densities of leopards in the world, but is still endangered in Sri Lanka.

A close encounter

The Park
Located in the deep south of Sri Lanka the Ruhunu National Park popularly known as Yala National Park is undoubtedly the best park in Sri Lanka for game viewing with a wide diversity of fauna & flora. The park is divided into five Blocks comprising one Strict Natural Reserve and 3 sanctuaries. The widely accessible Block 1 is open to the public for game viewing 11 months a year.

The drive from the capital Colombo would take approximately 6 hours to cover the distance of 300+Km
