Hi guys. Just discovered this group and i'm glad i did. I'm Fabian (Fabo) an I'm as colorblind as someone can bee. I have red-green colorblindness and i have never ever, been able to tell them appart.

Since last year.

I read in the internet about some glasess that could help you with colorblindness but i was skeptical about them. Since in my native country (Venezuela) I couldn't find them, i had to wait until i moved to Madrid, to try them. So i did.

My life has changed in a way a have no words to describe.

Last year i saw red for the first time in my life. Is amazing!!!!

You have no idea what is like to see a coke can or a tomato in full brilliant red. It's spectacular.

I used them every day, and for photography are great.

Of course there is a negative side and is an important one.

After all day wearing them the minute you take them off, you realize how much you've been missing all your life (colors that is). It gets kind of depressing some times but overall, they are fantastic. I'll post a picture of them in the group so you can see them. Oh, and they are not cheap! Mine cost 700 Euros.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Fabo :) I'd heard about these glasses but had been pretty skeptical, I'm wondering how they work.... for my particular colourblindness (protanopia) my guess would be that they reduce the intensity of all colours except pure red to about 1/10th their normal intensity, and then your brain adjusts and voila!! I think perhaps I need to get a new job though before I investigate!! 700 euros is a lot of cash!!!

also the description of the different types of colour blindness was very helpful, it says that for protanopes pink flowers may appear to be blue, which might explain why a flower I photograph looks very blue/dark purple to me in real life, but looks pink in photographs I take of it! Probably a difference between reflected and transmitted light.

Hi Wintermute!

I think the glasses work becouse they adjust the speed of the color wave as it enters your eye. (or something like that. I could explain it in spanish, but in english I my not go that far :) ) They are great, given that you see red all over the place (in my case). Some colors of course you know are not the same. Like white, may seem a litle redish, but that's fine to me. One thing do, the world makes a lot of sense when you see it closely as it's supposed to be.

I'd heard about the glasses, but not given much thought to the psychological ramifications of not wearing them all the time. :)

Here's my question:
Do you use them while taking or editing photos? Do they help with that? (That's where I think I'd find 'em the most helpful!)

Actually I wear them all the time. Except when i'm correccting my pics in Photoshop. I'm used to doing that without the lenses. They are reaally great, i can see now 5 hishihara plates without a problem. Before the glases i could only see the first one.

I've got a chromagen contact lens but found that aside from me suddenly being able to see the numbers during the colour blindness tests, they didn't help in the real world. Sure, things looked very punchy but I still can't tell when a skin tone is correct in photoshop. Bit of a waste to me, I'm afraid. Others shouldn't be put off trying it though! :)

I posted a link to my blog where I discuss them in my "hi all" thread.

I also have made use of the contact colour correction lenses but found that when sitting in front of my PC there was a distinct 3D effect which made my eyes very tired.

I do not wear them as much as I used to as it was an amazing thing at the time, now I use them very rarely and depend on my wifes eye to tell me if I have gone overboard when making colour adjustments.

Maybe if these were around in my younger days I would have stayed with them , nevertheless I would never have missed the opportunity of seeing my wife, children &family as others see them.
