Very nice job with your takes on the LIGHT theme and lighting set-ups for week 6. With week 6 almost in the bag, we can start thinking about next week.

Our week seven theme is.... "Rule of Thirds"

According to Wikipedia "The rule of thirds is a "rule of thumb" or guideline which applies to the process of composing visual images such as paintings, photographs and designs.[1] The guideline proposes that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections.[2] Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would."

I have used the edge of the table to define the horizontal thirds and the last sweet on the left to define the vertical third (I know I am slightly over on both).

I think it does help balance the picture, but I don't think it is vital to create a good image.

I think this photo clearly illustrates the rule of thirds; not only is the photo divided into three parts; (sand, sea and sky) but it is centred on three bollards. For once i feel i have done justice to the theme!

This is from a series of portraits I took of my children last week. This one is of my 'third' child. The layout was informed by a book on portrait and candid photography (lent to me by my friend - thanks Gion). Placing the eyes and mouth offset across the 'thirds' of the frame draws the viewer in to his beautiful eyes, which he gets courtesy of his mother.
