About The Smiling Victorian

Antique photos with smiles! Not all who posed for the camera's lens during the Victorian and Edwardian eras were somber and stoic...though harder to come by in antique photographs, examples of smiles can indeed be found, from those with Mona Lisa mystique to the more exuberantly gleeful grins. This group is dedicated to forming a collaborative collection of these cheerful images, and bringing together those who admire and appreciate these wonderful glimpses into the past.

Guidelines for Submitted Photos:

1) Age of Photo: The older the better! Images themselves should be from the Victorian or Edwardian era (lets say about pre-WW I ), digitally restored photos ok, no modern photos

2) Type of Photo: Family pictures and other "found" photographs, at least one person in the photo should be smiling, nothing offensive or risque please

3) Ownership: You should be in possesion of the photo (i.e. images copied from websites, books, auction sites, etc. respectfully declined)
