I think so Rod. We will just pull the sixteen people out that will comprise the initial attendee list first. Then, we'll draw the remaining names and record the order drawn to create the waiting list.

Yeah, Rod. For the waiting list, we'll list out (in order) who's on that list. So if you're at the top of that list, you might want to make plans to attend, as the chance of you getting in when someone drops is greater.

Looks like an extremely well-organized plan guys. Bravo for taking the initiative and putting it together!
I'll aim to jump right on the signup post, as it looks like I'm totally fre and clear that day. Wouldn't it be a treat for this to be the first Vancouver Strobist meetup that I'm actually able to attend? ;-)

Thanks for the offer! An equipment discussion should definitely occur when the list is created.
Personally, I've always felt most of us bring way to much to these meets... but I'm a minimalist (and lazy) at heart. If each person brings 2 lights and stands that would be 8 per group.... more than enough.

IF I can get a wardrobe or hair stylist to join us, we can discuss that too. I can talk a bit about my experiences working with them too (although I've only worked with a few of each). The models may be able to better offer some insight into that as well.
All of the models are here because they want to help out, learn, and gain experience. So we're all in this together!
Now were did I put that 39 port? ;)

So, the floating head over here thinks that it's very important to get back to the significant topic of BRIBES.
C'mon Steve and Ian... you two are organizing, so you both know that you're going. The rest of us have to just wait here in terror of eventuality that the final list gets posted, and our names are absent. :-(
Surely there's some way to sway you?

Keep an eye on the attendee list thread. If someone cancels, we move the next person on the standby list in.
Unfortunately there's only so much room and 16 seemed the most effective number for people to learn/do. :)

If someone wants to the take the ball and run with setting up a second venue, models, location, etc., then by all means! Would love to see the other 16 get involved with something. But the key is that someone needs to take the torch and run with it. Ian and I have our hands full with this event. :)

I would like to see a "calendar of events" set up for the group actually, with someone signing up to host an event every two months or so. That way each person would know when they are hosting and would be able to plan accordingly.
This is the second event Steve and I have co-hosted, and they definitely take some time to set up.

Hey Phil!
I don't think we need another site, I just think we need a thread here to outline upcoming events. As poor as Flickr's forum tools are, I love that we have everything here, without having to go to yet another site.
One thread here entitled "2009 Vancouver Strobist Events" would suffice. In that thread people can post when they are hosting an event, and a link to the thread with the information about that event.

I just wish Yahoo would add extra functions for Flickr Groups such as a calender, polling or voting function...
...even a ``delete obsolete discussions`` option would be good too!

I'm arranging the lunch details. I've kicked around several ideas (sushi, deli, etc) but given special dietary concerns, allergies, etc I am leaning towards having pizza brought in.

Ok...is everyone ready for this?
I've secured some fantastic wardrobe for our models for the shoot. Since we're not doing NUDE bodyscaping shots, what better way to clothe our models than in tight fitting PVC and corsets? ;)
Veronica Hull from VH Studio Designs has graciously offered to bring by some fantastic pieces of her work for our models to wear throughout the day for our shoots!
I had the good fortune of working with Veronica last summer in Nanaimo shooting some of her designs alongside some awesome birds of prey. She's in Vancouver selling her designs at the Taboo show at the Vancouver Convention Center next weekend.
So while we'd never demand this, it would be awesome if any participants offered to allow Veronica to use any of their shots in a promotional manner (on her site, flyers, biz cards, etc.) that highlight her wardrobe. Like I said, it's not mandatory, but I'll be able to provide her contact info if you choose to do so. I know I'll be giving her copies of all my work.
Less than a week to go! :)

Hey all!
Last post before the meet from me!
The shopping is done, the studio is confirmed, the models are arranged (and rearranged), the wardrobe and MUA(s) are booked, and the food is being delivered at noon.
We're ready to rock!
I just wanted to send a quick note to a couple of people who have emailed over the last few days, concerned that they don't have enough experience, or enough gear. Tomorrow is all about learning to light in a collaborative, supportive environment. There will be plenty of gear, and plenty of people to help you get your shot. Just relax and enjoy!!

I want to thank Steve and Ian for obviously putting so much effort into setting up this very good teaching day. When they use their contacts and relationships to bring in the type of resources we saw yesterday they are putting those ties on the line. I think all would agree that it was worth it just to have the morning session alone to learn what MUAs and models expect from us; something I saw reflected in the way the shoots went on in the afternoon.
Thank you also to Andrew and Pacifica for providing the great venue!

Thanks, Keith. We really enjoyed it too and felt it was a productive learning day for all. I learned from some of the setups myself! Who'da thunk to use a fridge, with a flash in the door...and a small asian girl inside handing out pizza? ;)
BTW, I have all the contact info of the models, MUAs and wardrobe people for those who want to get their shots OK'd before posting.
