Death Proof 02

See this picture here? It’s the most popular photo in my whole flickr library. It’s been viewed more times than many of my pictures combined. It’s made it into countless other journals and blogs. A staggering 24 people so far call it a fave. If you want to jump on the bandwagon and call it a fave yourself, even just for humor’s sake, I wouldn’t complain. But why is it so popular? It’s arguably not the best MOC I’ve ever done and definitely not the best photo I’ve ever taken. So what makes it special? It’s simply more famous than all my other cars. It’s Kurt Russell’s Death Proof ’70 Nova from the movie Grindhouse. It attracted attention from the usual Lego crowd, but also caught the discerning eye of car guys, movie buffs, Quinton Tarantino fans, and even cult trash aficionados. I want you all to enjoy the same attention that I did…which brings us to this month’s challenge…

Your Claim To Fame You have until April 15th to build any famous car, truck, or bike from movies, TV, or even well known cars designed by legendary builders. You may build in any scale whether it be micro, minifig or larger. Whether you go with the General Lee, the A-Team van or one of thousands of other possibilities, the trick is to make it instantly recognizable. Also, don’t forget to include all those important keywords so that folks other than your friends can admire your work. So if the amounts of views on your profile seem a little bleak, of if you’re already a flickr superstar looking to score another big hit, this is surely a challenge you won’t want to miss. Be sure to include LUGNuts and claim/fame or famous cars in your header so we know where to find you. Whether you finish minutes from now or well past the deadline, you may post a picture of your entries here with a short write up about it.

Before our group grew to such large proportions it used to go without saying, but just to be clear, please don’t post mechs, tanks, boats or spaceships. Yes, we know your model X-wing fighter gets you a lot of views, but here we are all about cars, trucks and bikes. Got it? Good! Lets get building LUGNuts! Your claim to fame awaits!

Ooh that's interesting! I'm now regretting giving my mini a different roof to that of the Italian Job one. Oh well, something different it is, then!
Azaghal Gabilzaramul Posted 17 years ago
You know, I was just thinking to myself the other day how odd it was that there were no Back-to-the-Future DeLoriens in this group. I'll bet this challenge fixes that. :-)

j4ke...something different or your mini with the Italian Job roof...your choice.

Azaghal....yep, no one in LUGNuts has done it...you could be the one...

The thing is, the Delorean has been done so many times to such a high standard that one has to wonder what can be added.

Cheers,

IMHO, most of the DeLorien MOCS I've seen have been really good, or minifig scale, but not both. Lino, I will attempt one someday . . . but probably not for this challenge, sadly.

To divert discussion from the DeLorien exclusively, I offer up for inspiration the TV Tropes Cool Car entry.

Here's my entry. A Shelby/ AC Cobra. The car and its designer are famous by themselves, but versions and replicas of it were also shown in movies such as "Gone in 60 seconds", "Lock stock and two smoking barrels" and "Austin Powers" among others, as well as in TV shows such as "Miami Vice" and the short-lived "Fastlane".
I hope you'll like it.

OK, my next entry is the Audi quattro Sport (1985 version). I hesitate to put it here, but everyone knows the quattro, right?

Is it possible to be a bit of a car nut and not know the quattro?
Jayfourke Posted 17 years ago
Exactly my point! ;-) And I just rmembered, Tim Dalton drove a quattro of some description in his Bond films.

I thought of building 'Christine', but got hung up on what car it actually was. The cars they used in movie weren't the same type as that in the book. Added to that, it's a car with a really complicated shape. you've obviously had to simplify a few things, but it still looks great. Nice work!

I just realised (with a little help from wikipedia, actually) that a Ford F150 SVT Lightning featured in "The fast and the furious". Added to that, the F150 has been America's best-selling car for years, which makes it kind-of famous, I suppose. So, here's my second reply to the Claim to Fame challenge:

Here it is. My entry for the, "Your Claim to Fame," challenge is none other than the Mystery Machine. My wife has been suggesting I build this for some time now and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. This was a Bricklink intensive build, hence the black prototype I built to determine exactly what pieces I needed to order.

Be sure to check out the shot of the whole gang here.

It's why I built mine. The challenges are broad enough for you to almost do anything you want. We have one of these each month, so there'll be plenty of opportunity for you to build new things and show them here.

Cheers,
Ralph
