About 4-H = Life!
4-H is an organization that teaches youth citizenship, leadership, and life skills. It is the largest youth organization in the United States serving over 6.5 million members through 90,000 clubs. 4-H clubs can be found word-wide in over 80 countries.
The 4-H emblem is a green four-leafed clover with a white "H" in the center of each leaf. The four "H's" stand for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health which relates to the 4-H pledge:
I pledge my head to clearer thinking,
My heart to greater loyalty,
My hands to larger service,
And my health to better living,
For my club, my community, my country, and my world!
The 4-H motto is: To make the best better.
4-H started in the year 1902 with the "Boy's Corn Clubs" and the "Girl's Canning Clubs." It soon gained popularity and spread throughout the United States, developing more projects and clubs involving home economics and agriculture. 4-H became well known throughout rural America for it's livestock shows and fairs.
107 years later, 4-H is still up and running, bigger and better than ever! 4-H is no longer just about farming and cooking, clubs across the country are now teaching youth about everything imaginable such as photography, public speaking, service learning, computers and technology, business and much more.
This group was created for 4-Hers to share photos and stories of their clubs, projects, trips, and favorite 4-H memories. I look forward to seeing your pictures and learning more about the impact 4-Hers are making in their clubs, their communities, our countries, and our world!
