ok it was meant to be a picture of me, right here and right now, but no i had to flick thru and find a pic i actually like, which may I add is nearly a year old, why is this? Why can't i post what I look like right now and be happy with that pic of me floating around on the web?? Is it vanity ? Is it how II've been bought up (always put ur best foot forward etc)? Shouldn't I be happy and proud of me right now? Did you all use a pic taken in the moment, or did u scroll thru?? Please be honest and post ur oppinions also... would love to discuss this! raven xxx

Hey raven! I vote for leaving it there. This is an interesting question... something to post on the blog!

I took that picture about 5 minutes before I uploaded it. Of course, I took about 30 in total. :) In the past, I never would've done that, so I consider it a huge step in the right direction! However, I completely understand your hesitation and applaud you for being so honest about it to a bunch of strangers!

I am sure those who see it will think it's vein, but this is about me and learning not to conform to the way of thinking of others, it says this is what beautiful looks like, not this is what graphically enhanced air brushed commericial stereotyped perfect looks like right??

I added a picture I took of myself a while back (here), but then decided that a picture taken today would be more in the spirit of things.
So I set up my tripod, turned on all the lamps in my office, and, yes, I took my hair out of its habitual braid. Changed lenses on my camera. Tried some experimental shots. Decided that I really need a remote shutter release. Almost hit Amazon to look for one, reminded myself of what I was doing, and pulled my chair up to the camera so I could reach the shutter release (so I could let the autofocus do its job).
And then I took some pictures.
I'm an inveterate self-portrait-taker. I try different things, different expressions, looking in different places. I get some I think will be in focus, and hook the camera up to the computer.
And there I am, big as life. I've got little crow's feet at the corners of my eyes, I'm a bit broken out and blotchy, and the yellow incandescent light does absolutely nothing for my coloring. I tweak the color a bit. Leave the crow's feet alone. I've damn well earned those, thank you.
I do portraiture in my spare time, and someone once asked me what the secret of taking good pictures of people is. I told them, "I believe that everyone in front of my lens is beautiful. And then I prove it."
Works for self-portraits, too.

a couple of years ago I realised I have very few photos of me, and that I avoid having my picture taken because I don't like how I look. So I am challenging myself to like looking at myself by doing the 365 days thing - one self-portait every day for a year. I've been doing it for 90 days now, and am gradually getting used to seeing pictures of myself and even thinking I look nice in some of them

Me, too! When I went looking for before and after pictures of me, I could hardly find any, so I too am doing 365 Days. I'm on Day 114 now. It's a trip. I am starting to recognize my face, from someone who seriously avoided mirrors for decades.
