About Oak Ridge National Laboratory

During WWII site was one of three major laboratories used to produce the world's first atomic bomb. Used for the production of nuclear weapons and waste storage. Designated by the EPA as an environmental hazard. Contamination includes uranium seepage into groundwater, 36 tons of mercury pollution, and contamination of the Clinch River. This site would potentially be impacted by a Bush administration proposal to revamp the US nuclear stockpile and build a new generation of nuclear weapons.
