PCA 39 - Break the Rules

Kass & Rachel says:

Assignment: PCA 39 "Break the Rules"
Deadline:September 14th, 2008 - 2 week assignment
Image Tag: pca39
From: Kass

Mission:
OK, this one is a bit of a freebie as there is no subject requirement - shoot whatever you want!

The assignment these two weeks is to take a photo that intentionally breaks the "rules of photography". So tilt your camera. Have your subject out of focus. Blow out your highlights! Put the horizon smack dab in the middle. Desaturate. Oversaturate. Take a black and white photo of a sunset. Use a an drooling model. Catch a sunflare. Take a busy photo! Give us more ideas for "rules" to break. Whatever you do, just end up with a compelling photo that you (or at least someone else) would consider wall-worthy. Rules can be personal as well - it can just be something you consider "wrong", but others are fine with, just make sure to let us know. And try to break at least two rules - otherwise it would be to easy. :)

This webpage is a good starting point:
Break the ‘Rules’ of Photography and Take Stunning Images

Administrata:
Your photograph must be taken between August 31st and September 14th.
Please tag your image exactly as written: pca39
Click "Send to Group" above your photo to submit it to the Group Pool.

WIT (What It Took):
In the description of your photo, do not forget to tell us a little bit about what went into making it. That could be anything from your thought process, to the technical details of exposure or how you may have set up lighting. As discussed before, please wait to submit your image to any other groups' pools to avoid having a plethora of comments our group would have to wade through to critique your image. Thank you!

Critiquing Submissions:
After the due date, please make an effort to critique all the other submissions. Click on each photo in the pool and offer your critique. When critiquing each image, consider the overall impact, technical aspects and composition. Just do your best regardless of your experience level.

Ongoing general discussion related to this assignment will take place in this thread.

It certainly is difficult! But I'm enjoying it.
milazzy - you can post when you want to, but your photo won't show up in the pool until the deadline date.

Post one to the pool only.
Then after its closed look in the thread for some one to start an out takes thread, there you can post ones that you did not choose for the assignment,
the concept is to find ONE photo that you choose that best meets the criteria for the assignment (and I have a tough time picking just one most weeks). makes you really think, the WIT (What it took) segment is also very important for the assignment, this one for sure... what rules you are breaking, why you broke them etc, I can see this one being one of the longer WIT's in recent history.
Very much a "thinking" assignment as much as a shooting assignment.

I have nothing yet. I've broken the rules many times on the sly, but when it's actually required I'm out of ideas! :)

Seems I lied on my submission. Broke another rule. Remember to convert to sRGB before uploading. For those of you who commented on the "flat" color, I've uploaded a more accurate version.

Thanks Farkled - quite a difference in colours!
I definitely enjoyed this assignment - it made me think - and it was quite hard to consciously break some rules but keep the impact of the image strong.
Great assignment!
