Hi Laure,
I was here during the fall cure as well and would like to join the spring cure now.
Is it possible to join the group now? I sent my form yesterday and re-submitted it today.
Thanks,
smitten

I'm behind and feeling discouraged. My place is still so depressing. I joined the cure to get some motivation but am having a hard time springing into action. I'm so embarrassed of my apartments current state that I don't feel ready to post pictures until some progress is made and I can show the before and after. Is anyone else having the same freakout?

i'm beyond the freak out. i can't relax in my own home so i'm pretty much over any embarrassment! i haven't read a book in months. i can't sit still.
also the one area of my home that is "homey" is my kitchen. it's well edited and even if i have no money, i always take time for family meals, so that is one area I'm going to skip and focus on the rest of the place. my husband is out of town for the next 2 months and so there's a lot less cooking (and cleaning up!) going on, but that is freeing up my schedule to do the big projects and decluttering that needs to happen.

Week 2 - I'm going out of town tomorrow, so I won't make much progress this week. But I did accomplish some of the week 2 tasks:
* I have a water pitcher Brita filter, but haven't been using it lately. I got it clean and sparkling, and put a new filter in. One thing done!
* Went through the fridge/freezer/cupboards and tossed anything old. I regularly do this, though, so no suprises and nothing funny to write about. I gather all dry goods/canned goods expiring within the next 3-6 months and donate them to the food bank, figuring they'll eat them before they expire and I prob. won't. Only had a few things, since I do this at Thanksgiving/Christmas time also.
* I made a rough floor plan of the upstairs, but didn't do all the exact measurements to finish it.
* Called around on my fix one thing task to try to find a switch (I'm fixing a floor lamp with a foot switch on the cord). Didn't find exactly the right part, but have some suggestions for other parts which may work.
That's it -- not much cleaning in the kitchen aside from going through the pantry (and I skipped the spices/baking goods shelves). I'm not sure I will get much else done this week.

Oh, I have been gathering many things to give away, but so far, none of it has left the house (aside from hangers to the dry cleaners for recycling). But as part of my kitchen cleanout, I have at least one pan to give away. It was two, but I just used the second one this weekend and now I have second thoughts. Hmmmm.

Aww qingdaogrrl we are soo in the same boat!! Your photos are basically mirror images of mine. I feel like a troll in my dark hovel of a home. I know you can do it even though I feel beaten down myself. Isn't that strange. But you know what, feeling not alone gives me hope. My kitchen is also the only place that is organized and always clean because I cook at home as well, too bad there isn't any seating in there. I'm exhausted and can't keep my mind still either, as this post I'm sure proves. Lets do this!!

I have a day off tomorrow, so I'm going to have more time to work on my kitchen. Between work and school this week (both full time), I found time to declutter part of one cabinet in the kitchen and have cleaned out most of the fridge. Tonight I'm going to begin to tackle my pantry, since I'm going to the grocery store tomorrow. Flowers are on my list of items to buy.
My planned repair: tightening the knob on my pantry door
Other repair (extra credit): ask my apartment for some paint to cover some wall marks
atsweetheart08-
This will make you feel better: I'm going to post before pictures of my closet and my pantry this evening. You have one up on me, since you say your kitchen is organized. How about posting a pic to inspire ?

Just wanted to say hi, I've only been reading AT for a few months, but I'm hooked and I'm doing a cure for the first time. I've been in my apartment for about half a year but it still looks like I'm moving in, so it's time to do something about it! It's gonna turn into something halfway between a whole home and a one-room (living room) cure, but it'll be worth it to make some progress!
atsweetheart08: I just uploaded a photo of my disaster of a living room, so don't feel discouraged. If it's bad now, the only place to go is up, right?

My blank wall that aspires to be part of my kitchen is still stumping me, but otherwise, the kitchen is clean and de-cluttered.
I've been combing through Better Homes and Gardens, an subscription I bought from my niece during a fund-raiser, and cutting out photos that use my palette and show simple, organized spaces, furniture, and decorating ideas. I think I'll check out Budget Living from the library again--I first checked it out when I first bought my condo, and it was fully of charming, budget-conscious ideas.

I am so glad the kitchen came at Week 2, just as the Cure started I began a major repair in my kitchen - replacing my kitchen countertops, sink and faucet. It had really needed to be done for a long time but estimates to have it done were a little (okay, a lot) out of my budget. I took the free tiling class at Home Depot and decided to give it a shot. I am posting an after shot to the group, but I have pics of the whole process in my house set. I finally finished up the major stuff last night (very minor details left like changing out the plugs, attaching some trim, etc). It is a huge weight off of me to finally get it done and have a faucet that doesn't have to be turned on with a spoon (yes, it really was that bad before). Now I can start the deep clean on the kitchen to get rid of all the construction dirt, and am planning a massive declutter of the area as I add things back to the room.

Well, I am feeling behind due to my work schedule and two family birthday get-togethers, but i have the weekend off so I hope to get back on track. My mom and I are headed to the Phoenix Art Museum tomorrow for the Monet, Matisse and More exhibit. Matisse is one of my favorites and I am in need of some inspiration, so the timing is great.

We had an RO system installed in our kitchen yesterday -- So great to have drinkable water from our own faucet! Hoping to get softener too for luxurious soft water showers.

I haven't done as much as I wanted to this week.
Hopefully I can pick up the pace this weekend. I plan to do a lot of cleaning around the apartment, and a bit of purging in my bedroom, and especially in my closet.
I also need to hunt around some thrift store and see if I can find some cute lamps for my bedside tables.
And then, as a break from all the glorious curing, I'm going to sew myself a shirt!

I am also behind. I really haven't started yet... It's tax season for us CPAs, so finding time has been challenging. Hopefully I can leave work this afternoon and go home to take pictures. I thought about cleaning before I took pictures, but what is the point of that, right? I should just document how I live everyday. That way I can figure out some improvements that will fit my needs.
I love looking through everyone's pictures. You all are giving me such great ideas and motivation!

you guys are all doing great - i've been too busy to take any pics but i'll try to do it tomorrow. tomorrow i'm also going to do the sitting for 10 mins and feel the walls. i have been looking forward to that!
the thing i fixed last saturday was my son's toilet seat. i bought a new seat a year ago and never installed it. he didn't keep up on the cleaning when we moved in a year and a half ago, and it (being particle board!) got all moldy on the underside. ewwww! so i finally changed it out. i couldn't take a picture of that.
i've had stuff by my door for a while (the outbox!) so i finally dropped that off but need a better outbox so i can get rid of more stuff.
good luck you guys - tomorrow is a new day and a new beginning - i don't think we should stress if we get behind or ahead but focus on the big pictures which is going to be a peaceful home :)

Was catching up on all your posts and realized that if anyone is in the San Diego area they might be interested in AMVETS... they pick up ALL the time in my neighborhood and you can call them and not have to wait more than a day or two! It feels so great to unload your inbox... and Amvets makes it so easy! Their number is 1800.795.vets. Good luck everyone!

Smitten--You're in!
On the freak out:
totally normal everyone. I do the freakout too. That's why it helps to be reminded that this is all about making progress, not having the perfect place when you're done. On AT we post pictures to inspire, but a lot of those have been totally styled, have great lighting and a team of people to make it look great. So just focus on what you can do in 15 minutes ot make some progress, don't worry about all the other weeks, just work on this one!
Welcome Jen.Lum!
Lelusama--do you have any favorite Pheonix furniture places that deserve a mention on AT?
Bellaebrutto--thanks for that tip!
You guys are doing great, keep talking ot one another, it will get you through it!

Smitten,
I was looking at your Oct. photos... I found a fun red duvet cover at Ikea... it's in a batik-type print with large white flowers. There were several other s in red too! Maybe there is something there you might like. If I get my photos downloaded I can show you what I did with mine... I liked in on my bed so much I covered a small sofa with it.

Week 2 wrapup -- I did go to pick up the new part for my lamp, but we ended up needing to order it. So, in 2-3 weeks it will arrive and I can work on the repair again. But at least I was able to get it ordered.
I also took the dry and canned goods I excised from my cupboards to the San Diego Food Bank. So, 1 bag of things out of my house. :-)
I bought Week 1 flowers at the end of the week so they were still fresh for much of Week 2, and then I was out of town for the rest of the week. A few of the calla lilies are still hanging in there. :-)

While i was at the Phoenix Art Museum, I met a woman that worked at a "green" home store called Natural Territory. www.naturalterritory.com/ My mom and I ventured over there after the museum and saw some really great stuff. It is definitely on the pricey side, but that comes pretty standard with sourcing environmentally sound products. I got some great ideas for my style tray.
Copenhagen and Denmarket are also great places in the Phoenix area.

I'm a little behind and will be heading into the kitchen this week. I will post my pictures this weekend. I don't have the budget to re-face the cabinets, so maybe just a fresh coat of paint will do the trick. As for the ceiling in there... ugh. Be prepared for these to be their own post.
HotRodGal - Your pictures look amazing! So would you recommend the tiling clinic? Any other resources? I don't have the budget for great countertops, but I think I can swing the tile this time around.
