About Quintessential Cambridge

This group is intended to illustrate the ICONIC aspects and the best photos of ARCHITECTURE, GARDENS and to a lesser extent people and events (such as Honorary degrees, royalty visits, the bumps,)
Cambridge is a unique town architecturally, not only for its topography along the River Cam, but because it has examples of ALL styles of architecture from every single period from Saxon to the contemporary.
In addition, some of these examples, such as the Gothic perpendicular in King's College Chapel is the best in the country.
The College gardens excell in landscape architecture: they also are dotted around with important pieces of sculptures by notable artists.
Individual works of art, where available will try to complement the picture, as well as, to a lesser extent the presence of people "at play" taking part in ceremonies, in playing crocquet on th eimpeccable lawns,, attending a garden party , punting on the river, racing in the bumps or attending a college dinner or a May Ball. Nevertheless the presence of people is subsidiary to that of gardens and architecture only in as much as it may underline the athmosphere and illustrate the Englishness.
These elements should make Cambridge distinct and special - the Cambridge which we all enjoy and admire: the Quintessential
