About Sacred Islands

Sacred Islands is a group for images of the holy islands of the world.

This as defined as an entire island which some culture has historically viewed as imbued with religious spirit or distinct sacred energy.

This might include, for instance, the monastic islands of Ireland, or the tapu islands revered by the Maori of New Zealand.

Images of the sacred precincts on such islands are particularly welcome.

Please tell a little of the island's story, especially if it is not well-known.

Please omit:
-- churches and religious sites which happen to be on a non-sacred island
-- metaphorical and symbolic images of non-sacred islands
