About Indian Army

With a total troop strength of around 2.5 million (1.3 million active and 1.2 million reserve), the Indian Army is the second largest standing army in the world. In one sense it can be argued that soldiers of modern Indian Army follow a glorious tradition that has its roots in the armies that fought the epic battles of Ramayana and Mahabharata thousands of years ago.

From ancient battles to modern day warfare, the soldiers of the Indian armies have produced some of the finest examples of inspirational human characterstics, courage, determination, loyalty and bravery, all of which are a must for men consigned with the task of guarding the people and territories of nation as vast and as diverse as India. The illustrious past of the Indian Army, both near and distant, accords it a respectful and well earned place not only at many a turns of the military and social history of India but in the history and shaping of the modern world.

From the role of a faithful Sepoy serving his European Sahibs on the North-West Frontier to that of a soldier fighting on the shores of Gallipoli and Western Front during the Great War, from fighting in the wild outposts of East Africa to becoming the largest all-volunteer force in modern history rising to over 2.5 million men in size during World War II. Whether as a UN peace-keeper in Somalia and Vietnam or as an army helping people of a country gain independence (Bangladesh Liberation War), from fighting under the harsh desert sun protecting its borders to the shivering colds of the highest battlefields on earth, every role played by the Indian Soldier commands respect and recognition worthy of its place among one of the finest armies of the world.

So come and share your favourite moments related to the Indian Army and Armed Forces captured on camera here.
