03 Jun 09 - Although we want to showcase all depictions of the Lamb and Flag in Preston this site is open to all photos of the Agnus Dei around the world, so we can compare and contrast. At some point we may re-visit the site and only highlight those related to Preston.

About Agnus Dei, the Lamb and Flag (or images of the Preston Crest)

This Group is dedicated purely to depictions and images of the Agnus Dei or the Lamb of God.

Preston's 'Coat of Arms' or 'Crest' or 'Standard' is the Lamb, sitting down with the flag. Normally with 'PP' beneath it (come to be accepted as meaning Proud Preston).

It's a standard Christian symbol, but to understand why we use it in Preston I welcome ANY depictions of the Crest, sitting or standing lamb (or Agnus Dei) to compare to our own.

Any pictorial representaions will do. Do not worry if you think it is not relevant to Preston. Any Countrywide or Worldwide representations of the Lamb are welcome.

I am also looking for a detailed history of the use of the lamb in Preston's Crest, why it was adopted and how it has changed over the years.

Earliest date for the crest in Preston? A Charter dated 1376 held in the British Museum shows a seal with a standing lamb holding a shield surrounded by 3 P''s.
