About Hommage à Doisneau
Group rules...Please read before posting.
1. The group is about the photography of people, captured in a spontaneous way, usually in a street setting. We're not looking for a distant silhouette, a posed portrait or a holiday snap.
2. All images must have a scenic aspect. As our admin clepsydre wrote: “The scenic aspect comes from the capture of a precise moment in a story. The viewer will imagine ‘a before’ and ‘an after’. A viewer will create his or her own story, but the photo will induce the viewer to imagine the story. A scenic photo will appear as though it is a good quality image taken from a movie reel.”
3. No nudity, no HDR, but cropping, touch-ups and minor adjustments are permitted
4. No landscapes, city views, ordinary street shots without a scenic element, animals, industrial places, flowers and so on - unless they are backdrops to the main characters.
The admins will remove without prior notice any photos that do not comply with the group rules. Reposting will result in the member being banned.
We've added a few new images from Doisneau. One of them is widely known, but not the others, at least to out knowledge. Doisneau was waiting "in ambush" for the reaction of people to the picture.
This is the one that is widely known:

Here's the others, not so well known:

The following is to give an idea of unacceptable photos for this group.
A studio portrait :

A portrait outside a studio, but dull and with no scenic element:

A portrait that brings ridicule to the subject. Doisneau was kind to his subjects:

A street scene with no scenic interest whatsoever:

An ordinary street scene with nothing in it.:

A building with few or no people. This kind of image has no place in the Doisneau group. The focus is on people. Buildings and sceneries are only a backdrop to the main characters:

And of course, all sceneries, landscapes, plants, flowers and so on are not acceptable unless they are backdrops as well as animals, even if they are funny or cute.

Robert Doisneau (1912-1994) was a French photographer noted for his frank and often humorous depictions of Parisian street life.
