One more fireplace question

Is it a mistake to put a dining room table in front of a fireplace? I was playing around with some room layouts for this room:

Living Room

I don't think I will use the fireplace as a fireplace much, and the kitchen is so tiny, it might be best to put the table in here. So, could I put in in front of the fireplace, use the fireplace as sort of a buffet area if I have company, and put attractive wine glasses/vases etc on the glass shelves? I could then have my couch, chair and TV area in the second half of the room, set off by a room divider screen and/or area rug.

Bad idea? Does the couch/seating really need to be in front of the fireplace?

I don't know what the actual rule for that would be, but I think it would look nice as long as the fireplace is still a focal point. I'd leave plenty of room between table and fireplace (no squeezing between the two if possible) and leave the walls very plain around it and keep the shelves elegant and simple so that the wall isn't visually cluttered and overwhelmed.

I think if you consider the original layout of homes... prior to the advent of central air and central heating... Of course there was a fireplace in the dining room. Who wants to eat in a cold room - where the food gets cold?

Make it feel like a hearth.... like it belongs there. You have some nice display shelves, put your display china there - candlesticks, big pretty serving bowls and platters. and flowers!!!
I think it could look very inviting.
