About Merseyrail - the Railways of Liverpool & Merseyside, England

This group is for any pictures of the Merseyrail Railways system including shots of life in the communities along the line. Electric Merseyrail trains travel underground below the city of Liverpool as the "Wirral Line" which then runs under the River Mersey to destinations across the Wirral Peninsula, West Cheshire and parts of North Wales through connections at Bidston and Chester. A second electrified line is the "Northern Line" which runs from South Liverpool under the city centre to Kirkby, Ormskirk (Lancashire) and Southport. There are also various routes running overground from Liverpool Lime Street to Warrington, Widnes, St.Helens, Newton, Wigan and Preston which are known as the "City Line". These routes are not electrified but still come under the Merseyrail banner. In July 2009 the electrification of the Liverpool - Huyton - Newton - Manchester line was announced which will open up the possibility of new electrified Merseyrail services.
Any shots of life in the stations and streets, fields and coast near to the line, and of (or inside) the trains are welcome in this group. Please feel free to post and comment in any language, especially English, Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian or Dutch.

By the way, if you like suburban trains and pictures of "life along the line", please have a look at our sister groups with pictures of "life along the line" on two similar railway systems in Japan.
