06 Apr 10 - GROUP UPDATE -- okay, I've decided it would be best if we are strict about the 38/2.8 lens spec rule. The question has come up a few times before and again recently. Deciding which slight variations to allow and which ones to reject is too subjective. So if it does not have a 38mm f/2.8 lens, it's no longer allowed. Existing shots in the pool are okay. Thanks! ~Bob

About The 38/2.8 LoungeWelcome! This is a group dedicated to that under appreciated collection of early point and shoot cameras that featured 38mm F2.8 fixed focal length lenses. It was the beginning of the end in terms of point and shoot quality for the majority of cameras (although there continued to be exceptions to this). But this bunch of cameras - most anyway - were still equipped with a relatively high quality lens - mostly due to the fact that cheap zoom lenses hadn't yet made their debut. Many were auto focus while some were zone focus, and some had motor drives while others had traditional film advance levers or thumb wheels. Some auto focus models would allow pre-focus while others would not and still others show you exposure or focus info in the viewfinder while others leave you guessing. The motor drive variety is typically very noisy, while the ones without motor drive can be rather quiet (especially the zone focus cameras). But one thing many of them shared for a time was the ubiquitous 38mm f/2.8 lens. |
