About THE BEATLES NOVELTIES
The first Beatles novelty was made by an American living in London in 1963:Bill Clifton's BEATLE CRAZY.Next came DORA BRYAN,a 40+ TV actress who charted with All I want for Christmas is a Beatle.By the beginning of 64 the VERNONS GIRLS had entered the arena and actuallt appeared under another name as the CAREFREES with We love the Beatles. Both these were issued in the States at the start of the British Invasion and the Carefrees cut an album.
After February 1964 the Beatlesong became a cottage industry and still survives today though not too many are making things like Ringo Bells.
DAVID PEEL cut 2 albums of Beatles novelties in the late 70s and it could be said the Beatles career is being documented right into this century.
The Americans though were best at it,using the pop music of the time to create the songs but there were also many examples of ersatz Merseybeat especially from the GANTS and the KNICKERBOCKERS.The entire genre of garage bands was inspired by the British Invasion and many struggling 50s bands like PAUL REVERE & the RAIDERS suddenly found new careers.
This group is concerned not as much with the Beatles but the 1000s of novelties they inspired. And very little is known of some of the acts who;like 3 BLONDE MICE,may have been no more than high school kids who were fans
